Whatsup with the army and their undying love for their brittle m4's?

Because it's not brittle and it works fine. It's outlasted with minimal upgrades all the weapons developed to replace it.
Kayden Murphy
The M4 is perfection honed for over half a century. It will take a serious advance in firearms technology to replace it.
Connor Morgan
cost
David Foster
so all recent rifle trial results was a lie?
Michael Stewart
what trials?
Xavier Hughes
Call of Duty and Fortnite. It’s where OP gets his inly experience with guns in his life.
Gavin Rodriguez
>[citation needed]
Isaiah Perry
>every new 5.56 rifle is compared to the M4
There is a reason for this.
Camden Lewis
Psh cause their retards.
M16A4 is best for everything.
Army is just a bunch of tacticool gearqueer fags.
t. Crayon Eater
Jaxon Perez
I don't wanna be that guy, but the platform is the same oh he added a short stroke piston, SUCH ADVANCEMENT WE MUST BUY IT A ENTIRE NEW GUN!!!!!
It is is fucking retarded.
Asher Gray
Because they're obviously retarded and have to adopt the AK-47 obviously because it never ever ever jams and has a higher DPS. Granted it deals bonus damage to westerners but that's not that bad
Henry Green
evry meen a rifoman
Owen Torres
>Brittle
I mean I could understand if you were shitting on the cartridge or something but the platform itself is fine.
Gavin Kelly
Weight and cost. They have a shit ton of other equipment they need to carry, so having a light gun and light ammo is very advantageous.
Colton Cooper
>The M4 is perfection honed for over half a century.
Video is sort of related.
Luis Jackson
If you're talking about the one with the XM8, yeah. Some dumbfuck wasn't used to a non resetting burst FCG.
John Nelson
>vicker
>shill shit, shoot it, give no feedback.
Jason Robinson
Its not perfect, but like all service rifles, its good enough and the cost necessary to replace it is just too much for something else that is just slightly better than the M4.
Maybe if the replacement is a manportable railgun or something.
Charles Nguyen
It is literally
>Good enough
The rifle.
It has been adjusted to its current form since Vietnam, and is perfectly fine for normal infantry until some huge developments in small arms come along in another 150 years.
Despite their differences its the same story with the AK-74 or AKM and all of their derivatives.
You can train someone to shoot a man sized target at 100-200 meters, and train them how do basic weapon maintenance.
Matthew Taylor
>Brittle
What?
Kevin Harris
oo hah
Owen Gonzalez
As a zoomer I'm embarrassed by it. The M4 is older than I am. You'd think weapons technology would have made would have made some advances over the years. The m16 is what, 60 years old at this point? Somebody PLEASE make a better gun already.
Luis Morgan
Point to a better rifle then that would justify an upgrade. The M4 is just fine, what's embarrassing is the SAW.
Isaac Brown
>The m16 is what, 60 years old at this point? Somebody PLEASE make a better gun already.
They did, but for the sake of logistics you want people using the same kinds of guns. That means if you replace something like the M4, you need to purchase a fucking shitload of them so that everyone who had an M4 before can have the new thing. Ordering shitloads is expensive and the military backs off replacing stuff all the time saying that the improvement isn't worth the cost.
Jordan Scott
Smallarms tech hasn't changed much in 60 years.
The only "big" changes have been polymers to make shit lighter, rails to put dumb shit on your gun, and low power optics becoming a common thing for normal infantry.
The basic concepts, and uses of the rifle have not changed much.
Something big developments would need to happen IE something like worth while ceaseless or polymer cased ammunition. Or a switch to 6.5.
None of which are likely to happen anytime soon if ever.
Nicholas Butler
Dumb nigger. Until we get laser guns, the M4 is here to stay. Firearms technology is at its peak for what we’re capable of, there is no better rifle than M4, and anything that something else can do marginally better isn’t worth the upgrade cost.
John Davis
8/10, Four replies. Well done.

>Actually, they don’t even have to buy the whole gun. Christian Lowe of Military.com reports that:
“In a routine acquisition notice March 23 [2007], a U.S. Special Forces battalion based in Okinawa announced that it is buying 84 upper receiver assemblies for the HK416 to modify their M4 carbines… According to the solicitation for the new upper receiver assemblies, the 416 “allows Soldiers to replace the existing M4 upper receiver with an HK proprietary gas system that does not introduce propellant gases and the associated carbon fouling back into the weapon’s interior. This reduces operator cleaning time, and increases the reliability of the M4 Carbine, particularly in an environment in which sand and dust are prevalent.”
But the US Army won’t consider even this partial replacement option. The Army position was reiterated in a release on April 2/07:
Tyler Flores
ah yes the fucking correct
Ayden Thompson
Doesn't the HK416 shoot itself to death due to being a hack job in a platform not designed to have a piston?
It's honestly retarded to fit an AR-18 system inside an AR-15 shell instead of just making a modern AR-18 derivative, but after seeing the HK433 crash and burn it's apparent that modern H&K can't even do that.
Samuel Garcia
>cost of replacing 100k m4 upper recivers vs having soilders clean their weapons.
None of the middle east countires that use an AR derivative seem to have issues with it.
Charles Hill
they work.
this
Connor Garcia
>it works fine
For the record, this is probably the biggest endorsement any combat rifle can receive.
Austin Brooks
>laser guns
If you genuinely think laser small arms will be a thing beyond blinding a bunch of motherfuckers then you're about as dumb as the nigger you responded to.
Henry Mitchell
oohrar marins armee gar evr mariens riflman

I think electromagnetics would be the more realistic alternative. If it was possible to be in a handheld format you could basically ignore any body armor with the right "rounds".
Chase Hughes
Yup sounds like something a POG would say

You’re obviously stupid.
The next logical step is portable shoulder fired nuclear launchers.
