According to the Brits it is, in Afghanistan they would wear desert pants and dark green camo jackets, since the ground was sandy but there was a bunch of waist-height greenery and when you're walking through a poppy field nobody can see your desert pants so you're green like the field.

Russians can't help themselves, I honestly thought the whole idea of adopting Digital Flora was to stop the mishmash of each unit wearing 50 different Soviet patterns. The most surprising thing about when Russia annexed Crimea was that all the Russian soldiers were wearing one camouflage pattern. Now they're going back.
It's not a great look, but I suppose it's better than falling for the 'universal camouflage' meme and only making one compromise pattern.

Italian navy special forces, wearing a mix of the so-called "San Marco" camouflage in both desert and woodland version, as well as some jacket in the "Roma" pattern (basically the italian version of the m81 woodland camo)

Yeah, that was my point. It wasn't that long ago they were still wearing a heap of different Soviet patterns.
Well, yeah. They're Russians, at a certain point they can't help it. But, getting them down to only wearing three different patterns at the same time seemed like an improvement.

As per Royal Marines in this pic,you’re forgetting that DPM was at this point,not ‘standard issue’,thus,’denims’,the trousers,were still worn,with DPM smocks.
As for other pics,there is logic,in that to be truly ‘disruptive’,( the essence of cam & concealment),it makes sense to wear a different pattern smock to trousers.
Research British SF ‘uniform’ over the years,you’ll see what i mean.

I see a Mexican dude wearing flecktarn headwear, scarf and jacket with CADPAT shirt, rigging and pants, hunting near my girlfriends house every so often and they actually work together pretty well. The darker version CADPAT is basically a blockier less orange/black heavy Flecktarn. Makes sense since the Canadian army is probably the biggest wehraboo cosplay force ever assembled. The armor insignia they use on their Mercedes trucks and Leopard 2s is even stylized like the Iron cross the Bundeswehr uses.

The new National Guard of Mexico was just formed by combining public realtions, light armored infantry and military police from the Mexican army, military police and hostage extraction teams from the Mexican Navy/Marines and investigative, SWAT, riot and hostage negotion forces from the Mexican Federal police. All were supposed to receive a standardized grey-white digi camo uniform imported from Asia but the quality was so fucking terrible the National Guard rejected it and the public thought it looks hilariously bad, like 90s sci-fi so it was rejected and a new German-American inspired Mexican made uniform will be selected instead.. In the interim a horrendous mismatch of Mexican army digital in both forest and desert, Naval Infantry arid plateau, and Federal Police in black and grey will be used.

On my first deployment we wore woodland utilities and desert Helmet covers. We were fighting in a rural area with a bunch of green poppy fields and tan mudbrick compounds as well as straw colored brush around the perimeter of the fields. The theory was that when we peaked above the concealment of the green fields our heads would be silhouetted against the tan mudbrick walls and straw colored foliage.
