Combat worthiness aside why is slav shit so much more aesthetic and cool than western blocky crap? Do slavs design them this way intentionally?

It's subjective.

I dig the SU-25, but I also think that the A-10 has a similar rugged utilitarian charm to it.
AKM with laminated wood and Bakelite mags vs. a nice M16A1 with a 20rd mag? Tough call.

I believe the USA did have a similar design but it was not approved for production.

the YA-9, the one that lost to the YA-10?

Funny because that's a direct copy of an American design that didn't make it to production.

Why do Americans have to make shit like this up?

Why do Russians have to steal all our technology?

Yep, that one.

German aesthetics the best in the world

Seig heil!

If by "Aesthetic and cool" you mean hideous, then sure.

FPBP
Aesthetics are a very subjective thing and many Soviet and US fighter planes end up looking a lot alike. Like how the MiG-29 looks a little like the F-14

You can really tell how far we've fallen when a military has to replace rugged cold war period vehicles that can be maintained by a farmer with a screwdriver - with vehicles that require 100 hour maintenance per flight hour in an clean room run by university students.

Also fuck radar absorbent paint ruining aviation since the 90s.

Shame the MiG-23 has such lukewarm combat record, despite looking like an absolute predator.

Why are slavs the only to paint their planes with camo

Except the design of T-8, the SU-25 prototype is from the 1968 .. ?

Quake was a good game

HOLY SHIT A GOOD THREAD ABOUT MILITARY TECH WHERE THE FUCK AM I?

Commie block was waaay fucking behind in terms of CAD; they rely mainly on human made drawings and bluprints. Humans tend to avoid blocky stuff and trying to make everything more or less streamlined (evolutionary shit, our brains are coded that sharp edges and lines are potentially dangerous and could harm you, so you prefer more soft shapes; think about the shock and even disgust among public when first abstractionism and cubism pieces of art were introduced)
Also, aerodynamics - russkies dont have technology good enough to safely deal with not-so-aerodynamic designs in flight, so they prefere more conservative approach.
This fucked them in the ass in the end, but while participating in arms race they were making some really aesthetically pleasing suff

Now find a picture that isn't from the Cold War

You're wrong

Su-22, easy on the pierogi...

To make it harder for the pilots to be captured when the planes inevitably go down.

This
The Russians had good airframes with nice aerodynamics. The Americans just stuffed in more and more fly-by-wire because their electronics weren't dogshit. Time has proved the Americans right.

Lmao you pathetic Persians never fail to make me laugh with your "F-14 Appreciation" threads

Face it, most MiG-23's will be infinitely more successful than any of your sad tomcats ever will be. You are on the wrong side of history, get over it losers
