Humans tend to avoid blocky stuff and trying to make everything more or less streamlined (evolutionary shit, our brains are coded that sharp edges and lines are potentially dangerous and could harm you, so you prefer more soft shapes; think about the shock and even disgust among public when first abstractionism and cubism pieces of art were introduced)
Also, aerodynamics - russkies dont have technology good enough to safely deal with not-so-aerodynamic designs in flight, so they prefere more conservative approach.
