Exact same reason Americans have an exaggerated view of their own military. Their only exposure to them is combat arms (and exclusively their successes, at that), so they dont see the absolute shitstains that constitute the rest of it. Similarly, all you hear of the IDF are historic victories in wars from decades ago, their SOF raids and some spooky Mossad stuff that get attributed to the military, so you're average burger thinks that every Israeli soldier is some knife-licking recon brigade stereotype, rather than the worthless unmotivated 9-to-5 conscript timewasters that the majority are.
