The sad thing is Pappy is an alumni of my University, U of Washington. When they wanted to put up a memorial to him the student union voted against it saying they didn't want a memorial to another rich white man who killed minorities or something to that effect. Never mind he was a poor native American. Instead they put this ugly, shitty memorial to UW Medal of Honor winners in the middle of a round about and don't take care of it so it's overgrown with moss. Still makes me furious. Sad especially since Washington had some great people such as Robert Eugene Bush and Bruce Crandall also go there.

Interesting fact, I actually know a guy who hung out with pappy, he didn’t get along with Conrad who played him in black sheep , pappy was a fighter in his life before flying, n he was a pretty salty badass dude. The Corsair is one of my all time favorites. Sikorsky was one of the best aircraft engineers to live.

Was there something negative about the unusual wing design?
Of course it was heavier, complex to build and in F4U's case required also complex landing gear, but how did it affect the airflow and flying?
Still I find funny how it was so much faster than F6F with very similar power and weight. Was there really anything than simpler carrier landings that Hellcat did better?
