Post examples of your favorite guns that were for whatever reason, not adopted by a military/law enforcement agency.
Favorite "2nd place" Guns
Mmmm thats a classic. The perfect combination of looks, modularity, and performance.
I always liked Simonov's later designs that competed against the AK
idk what youre talking about, ive got one of those buried in the garden in case the proddies get uppity again
Holy height over bore batman
A gun only a mother could love
Ruger P85
I believe it came down to this, the P226 and the Beretta for the service pistol. These guns are built like tanks and I honestly trust it more than my Glock
I'm jealous my potato breathed brother. I want to be using stoner's true greatest design to blast heretics.
Gotta make room for the inline stock!
Looks way better with a more traditional stock though it lost the inline design with some other features later on with the slightly heavier T47
Muh dindu. Ruger P-series are underrated. Absolute chonk though.
Didn't they cut away a stupid amount of the slide to see if it would still work and it absolutely shot with no problems?
Also wasn't Ruger late to the competition? That sucks big time. There probably would be a hell of a lot of P85 surplus if it was chosen.
Lost out to the AK-46.
I don’t know for sure, but I assume that the slide could’ve been so heavy that the amount of mass reciprocating back and forth every shot could’ve gave it way more recoil than intended, so as a solution they lightened up less structurally necessary parts of the slide. That’s why the Glock 34 and 35 have that big ass hole in the top of slide
based Irishman
Everything this guy designed.
Hey Man, he fuckin tried
Correct me if I’m wrong, but weren’t both the 1941 lmg and rifle were adopted and saw combat in the pacific theater?
With the USMC paratroopers, sure. They used the Johnson LMG but that's the extent of it. A bunch of European partisans got some Johnson rifles.
None of Johnson's guns ever became standard service weapons.
RIP Czech refined M1
Killed by the Iron Curtain and being pretty expensive in a world of super cheap post-war surplus
Just remember his bolt design is in Stoner's rifles, he had a very big impact. Johnson helped promote the AR-10 and its subsequent designs because they were crediting him for his contribution.
From the story I heard, the Netherlands placed an order for something like 10,000 Johnson M1941 rifles. Because they were knocked out of the war their forces in the Dutch East Indies no longer required them.
Many of the guns were on crates just sitting on piers and the USMC took them to the Pacific.
The Johnson LMG was also in limited use and fairly well liked.
