A few reasons :
Can put the barrel right up against someone and shoot/shoot through a coat because you don't have to worry about a slide going out of battery.
Doesn't eject brass everywhere/anywhere.
No safety by virtue of design but still safe to carry (yeah yeah transfer bar, I'm not talking about that)
Some of the bigbois are for exceptionally hot load and +p that non-revolvers can't handle.
Ease of use for one-armed/one handed shooters (have fun racking the slide one handed or doing a tap rack)
Reloading can be done quickly with speedloaders/moonclips.

and the times it would fail, multiple attackers or heavily armed attackers, are times a semi would be ineffective as well

revolvers have a pretty dignified air
i will say that revolvers are much comfier to hold, probably because it doesnt need to fit a straight magazine inside so it can be more ergonomic
and im a pretty absent minded guy, ive tried to fire a semi with the safety on at the range, that would get me killed in a real emergency, my revolver doesnt have a safety so at least i wont stress out if i forgot to rack the slide or press the safety
a semi is probably better overall, but im more confident in my revolver and that's probably why i like them
