The MP7 in it's various configurations always looked pretty sci fi to me. Maybe it's just because of the association with Half Life.
I remember reading about this thing in 2015, it's a 9mm revolver that uses these funky ejector-actuated tabs to hold the rounds in place and release them instead of just having clips. It wasn't very reliable and looked like it would be prone to breaking as well. Also, between the hammer spur and the rail that's milled into the side, this thing is basically "snag points: the gun". Not worth paying Korth Prices for to find in my opinion.

Yeah, that was the earlier version of the gun. (Those rails are removable, BTW). There is a later version which is smoother and lacks those rails. It has a very similar name. Skyhawk I think? They made a large run of them for a Euro police organization, and there are some available for general sale now.

Still expensive AF though

You got it. Futuristic because well cyberpunk presumably takes place in the future. Retrofitted old guns with new tech because cyber. People augment their bodies with technology and hence older but still otherwise effective firearms get augmented with technology.

Pic related is an example of both and augmented person and augmented rifle.

I think the really big Trijicon reflex sighs like the original Reflex and the SRS count. I love the solar panel on the SRS.

I've been looking for that setup but not too terribly hard. I collect AOW's and .410 pistols so I think the Thunder 5 is a must have for completeness's sake, even though I agree that as far as shooting goes they suck compared to the Judge or Governor.

The Crimson Trace is a lot smoother and more practical--if I was actually carrying the gun that's certainly what I would want. But I think the laser on the Korth looks a lot cooler.

Does it use the same extraction system? That was my biggest gripe with it; the rail and hammer aren't great, but I can live with them (and the skeletal hammer spur at least looks kind of cool). I'm not a fan of having small, exposed parts on a place where there's a lot going on. I don't see the advantage over using clips, especially since it contributes to the gun's considerable cost.

These guns kind of suck ergonomically. While the bolt release is with reach of your trigger finger it's awkward to push down on. The Mag release needs your other hand to use efgiciently. The barrel heats up pretty quickly because it's so thin. The action itself is very reliable though; there's definitely potential in the operating system. It just needs a user interface that doesn't feel like a chore to operate.

One cyberpunk element that I think is largely missing is having obvious tubes or wires visible on the exterior of the gun.

Also: the more switches, knobs, selectors, dials, etc. the better. HK navy trigger group with 4-position selector is very cyberpunk. The safety lever (a rare feature on revolvers) is great on Remote pressure pads for lights are great.

I guess around 4ish kilos? And the stock isn't actually that bad. The only gripe I have with it is that the cheekrest is either too low to use the red dot or too high to use the 3x scope. I'm not sure if the wood counts, maybe it can squeak by because it's *old*? But the exposed mechanism for the extractor, the visible locking lugs on the break action, etc, is fantastic. Plus, you're gonna need some serious firepower if you're getting in fights with cyborgs, juicers, and corporate black ops with sky-high budgets.

Flattop lowers weren't really a thing yet, short of some limited production Colt M16s in Nam (it had like an A1 style sight sitting really low on the upper along with a weaver rail, and then a lower FSB to match).

A common thing with AR15s back then otherwise was to plain put a cheekriser on the stock if you were gonna use a scope or optic.

Just make sure to only use VFGs which Kel-Tec explicitly states are properly compatible with the rail on the KSG's pump-slide, such as MagPul.

.45-70 conceal carry? Holy fuck can i get one in a free state?

James Powell

the flat orange stuff is "romex", used for wiring buildings. it's color-coded by size, it also comes in yellow and grayish-white.

They've been out of production for 20 years. Just keep checking gunbroker and the major auction sites. They're really only impressive in practice though. With the barrel that short you're only getting a tiny fraction of the round's power. (45-70, being a rifle round, is loaded with slow powder meant for a long barrel). A 44 mag would probably be more powerful. a 454 casull, 460 S&W, 480 ruger, or 500 S&W blows the pants off it.

Luis Ward
Luis Ward

Shin's pistol was a fifty-yea-old Vietnamese imitation of a South American copy of a Walther PPK, double-action on the first shot, with a very rough pull. It was chambered for .22 long rifle, and Case would've preferred lead aside explosives to the simple Chinese hollowpoints Shin had sold him

You know you're gonna get dogshit ballistics from a barrel that short with .45-70, right? Not to talk about the blast and noise.
If you want a compact handgun in something powerful, look at a Smith & Wesson Model 69.

By the time it was written, that South American PPK clone would probably have been an Astra Constable II, Chase's one was a Vietnamese copy of that, with some aftermarket glow in the dark grips.

The Astra Constable line is actually pretty nice, worked just like a PPK, came in all the same caliber offerings, generally pretty decently made.

Jaxson Perez

They are genuine fucking loudmouths, absolutely, but unlike .45-70 Gov't in a tiny nub of a barrel (mind it's made for a rifle length barrel), a .44 Magnum snub will actually give you really good velocities and will shoot real straight, something the Thunder 5 just won't.

The M69 there (uhuhuhu, 69, uhuhuhu), is nicer too in that it's a 5 shot gun, which will allow it to be not as huge as a normal .44 caliber six-shooter.

Case would've preferred lead azide explosives to the simple Chinese hollowpoints Shin had sold him
Oh yeah, that was a meme back in those days too, "Devestators" or whatever the fuck they were marketed as, explosive projectiles. Gibson presumes these would have given better performance, but I'll bring up that John Hinckley Jr. used such ammunition in his .22LR revolver, shooting President Ronald Reagan six times, every single bullet failing to detonate, and Reagan surviving.

I wouldn't maybe have wanted .22LR hollowpoints if I wanted to defend myself, but I certainly wouldn't have wanted the bullets with the lead azide payload either, the explosive yield really isn't noteworthy even when they do work, I'd prefer some old M24 Ball or something imitating it if I had to rely on a .22LR pistol.

I really like Gibson's cyberpunk stories for how it will occasionally feature old guns, sometimes really junky ones.

Were you planning on buying more than one Korth Superport?
I was implying that comparing one-time purchases that probably have to be upgraded once every five years at most to a single gun in what if you're gonna spend like $4k on one is probably a large arsenal seemed a little silly. Sure, it COULD be the one gun someone wants, but that doesn't seem very likely. A poorfag like me could scrape my pennies for a year to get one, but that's a lot of saving for what's essentially an extraneous purchase and I could buy like 4 other guns and a fuck ton of ammo instead.
