It's about time for deer season. Post your comfy /innawoods/ hunting kit

I posted for bow season a few weeks ago. Now RIFLE season is upon us. I've got my pawn shop special Savage .30-06 and based Woolrich gear ready.

this is true kino

>tfw deer season isn't until november

>tfw deer season is like only two-three weeks in WV

Bump with my proposed Mauser build. The example at the top is one of the new $10k Mausers. I have an FN commercial action and some other small parts. I'm planning on building a pre-war reminiscent sporting rifle. To Mauser's credit, they have done the same.

I've never heard of 9.3x62 but now I'm interested.

If it makes you feel any better, the ideal weather window for aging a whole venison outdoors is probably not much more than three weeks. It needs to be above freezing but under 45-50 for the whole time. This window, and of course the rut , are what defined "deer season" before the State did.

Using a 7mm-08 in my area. All Sitka black tails here on Kodiak.

I love the old obsolete Euro sporting cartridges. Some are super obscure and autistic, complete with several dissimilar "versions".
9.3x62 is a more common one. There's factory ammo for it, as you saw. It became popular for moose in Europe, and for a non-magnum it's about as good as you can get for large game. Plus, I don't have a magnum length action. I have a large ring long action. Interestingly, CZ makes pic related chambered for 9.3x62.

Jealous of your geography. I did some Army time up in the interior. 7mm projos are just great for medium game like deer. No need for a magnum, either. 7mm Remington Magnum is kind of a head scratcher for me. 7x57 is a favorite of mine.

I just picked up a Benelli M4 though so I might just use that as the distances here aren't exactly far and I have a lot of slugs.

>t. tacticool oper8or wannabe

Jesus, you people need to stay in the basement ffs

It may not be aesthetic comfy but its comfy and Im not gonna go out and buy hunting specific shit when my old military shit I got for free and my hiking shit does just as good. Guns wise whats wrong with that. I own what I own.

I don't own a bolt gun in a substantial caliber other than My Howa without Irons so if I want to shoot a deer with open sights that leaves the M4.

Attached: I'll hunt however I damn will want..jpg (4032x3024, 3.08M)

Use the M4 on yourself you faggot

Can't help it, every time I see a hunting thread on Jow Forums, this comes to mind: youtu.be/XE4ZBcK01HU
(even though I reckon most of you lot are responsible and all that jazz.
I'm gonna drag all my hunting gear out in a heap on the floor to take a picture in a moment.

I'm cringing more than I thought it should be physically possible right now.

I use a lot of old Army stuff in my hunting, too. There's nothing wrong with what you've got. You should treat yourself to a sporting rifle, though. Hunting is fun. Tactical stuff is for work. That's why there's no camo in my kit. I spent enough time in camo and hauling an AR during the wars and ridiculous field problems. Pick up a cheap pawn shop or armslist fudd gun with a walnut stock. You might like it. It's a simple pleasure.

The military stuff I do use reminds me of my comfy National Guard days where we had two days a month of camping and hiding from the rest of the battalion innawoods. Note the wool sweater, based woobie, ALICE pack and wool scarf. This is all pre-GWOT stuff.

I had those same tan cold weather boots in Alaska. The soles freeze below zero and it's like walking on 2x4s lol.

You're out of line.

What rifle is that?

Do the Wranglers not make your ass cold? I wear them kind of tight so I get cold on my ass and thighs in Wranglers.

And calm down.

Didn't make sense until I read the file name. Good luck with those guys.

I'll have my pack with snacks if I am out of state, but will just bring a coffee thermos if I am in my stand on my land

Fuck wrong picture.

Attached: 1568908506692.png (3144x2096, 2.11M)

I don't mind open sight rifles or non tac guns, Standard sporting rifles are great. Ive used a Winchester 30-30 forever ago and my main bird gun is just a single shot 12g I found at a pawn shop for 60$, and I do plan to buy a lever gun in the future. But this year it'll be the Howa or the M4. Further the tac shit works for hogs real well which is what my loadout is really geared for.

I wouldn't bring the web gear, the boot gaiters or the bigger knife deer hunting I probably wouldn't even take the pistol.
Nah

It's a Winchester Model 70.

I've never had issues with my Wranglers. They are a bit tight around the ass but they are also very much indestructivle. I still have two pairs from 2007 that are literally like brand new. I don't know what kind of magic those dudes are using to make these jeans, but I'd jump the ocean again just to get me a few more pairs.

Also, I won't calm down.

Don't worry bro, I still use old M81 BDU's my uncle gave me to go durr hunting in. It works and it's more about whats underneath than the top layer anyway when its cold.
People just want to be salty fags 24/7 on Jow Forums now. Crazy how milsurp is cool if it comes from some exotic cold war hipster aesthetic the cool kids walk their college campuses in. But using US surplus to hunt in is cringy lmao.

Fuggin’ Ohio doesn’t allow necked rifle cartridges for deer or I’d use mine D:

Based and breadpilled

I don't actually own a filson wool jacket, just couldn't find a proper image of a fleece plaid jacket. I'm a poorfag noob and this is what I'm working with so far

Attached: workinprogress.png (2000x1398, 1.91M)

The bolt action for ants is a Mossberg patriot in .308 with a laminate stock and a marinecoat finish. I've gotten it recently so I haven't shot it yet; last time I went hunting I borrowed a Tikka T3 compact. Smoothest action I've ever seen

Holy SHIT!

Attached: 1552349568852.gif (324x354, 952K)

Yeah. Mine is from the 60s and it's great. Like a lot of things, they don't make them like that anymore. I found mine on ebay. The trick is to search by your suit jacket size, not your S-M-L-XL size.

>use an AR for elk and bear

IIRC lots of game in Africa has a legal 375h&h caliber requirement but allow for 9.3x62

Checked and yes. 10mm is enough for duur

Shit I actually own edition.

Based Model 70, the most aesthetic hunting rifle of all time.

Attached: sidjf.jpg (3144x2096, 1.3M)

That Mauser action with a 3-pos saftey is a boner maker.

The old sporters had more typical wing type safeties. The claw mounts set scopes high enough that they would still clear. I prefer the wing type because I am left handed but I shoot right handed bolt guns.

Anons, I'm going to introduce my kid to durr hunting this season. She's 8 and pic rated. I want her to have fun and make memories of being innawoods with her dad but I'm worried about her getting cold or bored and flipping shit.

Attached: 61ko6m9vTeL._SX425_.jpg (425x425, 54K)

Personally I'm not a fan of the wing type safety or high mounts.

Only got an antelope tag this year. Tell me how deer season goes.

I don't have photoshop or gimp but if anyone asks about loadout:
Savage 110 lightweight storm in 6.5 creedmoor with vortex crossfire 2
Sig p226 dark elite
Usmc kabar, gift from dad
Havlon knife for skinning
Sweater is wool patagucci
Shirt is a water wicking synthetic athletic shirt, also patagucci
Gorka pants (they handle the brush so well. It feels weird pushing through heavy foliage in them because they feel like pajamas.)
Hill people gear runners kit bag
It holds my snacks, ear plugs, phone, etc. It's great because I hate having shit in my pockets when I hike or do anything physical. Everything that I have easy access to is in that bag or on my belt.
Swiss surplus alpine gaiters
Magpul gloves, my favorite gloves so far. They're like mechanix but they feel better.
Gerber leatherman clone
Super useful. Had to use the pliers to fix a failure to eject fast or I wouldn't have time for the shot that filled my tag. Also had to diagnose a generator and used the gerber to take it apart.

ibis Paint X is a free app I use to play digital dress up on my phone. Highly recommend. It helps to have a stylus.

Well done. How far away did you hit that critter with the 6.5 Jesusmoor?

About 85m I think. Went hunting on a private ranch. Spent hours crawling and crouch walking through hay fields and sagebrush to get close to a herd. Someone on an atv spooked them and they bolted to the other side of the field and over a ridge. Luckily another guy on an atv tending to his cows on the other side of that ridge line spooked them and they ran back towards us without knowing we were there. I had to lead my shot since they were bolting at full speed at 45 degrees from me. Bullet entered through just under the shoulder and through the lungs. First time hunting anything too. I got lucky.

You're going to clean game with a kukri?

Attached: hunting loadout.png (2823x1566, 3.42M)

I want to use something different this year
>357 mag with 158gr xtp @ 1300 fps
>8mm mauser with 196gr bthp @ 2400 fps
>sks with common wolf soft point
>40 auto with 155gr xtp @1200 fps or 180gr cheap berry jhp at 1000 fps
Which one? Deer here are 100-170lbs so pretty small. Id use a 9mm but not legal to hunt with here.

I vote for 8mm. The critter deserves the most accurate, powerful shot you can give it. Plus you can feel like a wehraboo.

How do those Corcorans handle innawoods?
