What's the biggest humiliation a special forces group ever suffered at the hands of a paramilitary group?

That Delta Force debut back in the Carer era.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Eagle_Claw

SEALS tried to rescue a female brit journalist from Tali-qaeda and threw a frag grenade 2 feet from her.
But that was their own incompetence.

I would site black hawk down for delta but they bodied a fuckton of somalis

Probably something that has never, and will never be, unclassified.

This one's even worse:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EgyptAir_Flight_648
>Without warning Egyptian commandos launched the raid about an hour and a half before it had been originally planned. They blasted open the passenger doors and luggage compartment doors with explosives. Bonnici claimed that these unauthorized explosions caused the internal plastic of the plane to catch fire, causing widespread suffocation. On the other hand, the Times of Malta, quoting sources at the airport on the day, held that when the hijackers realized that they were being attacked, they lobbed hand grenades into the passenger area, killing people and starting the fire aboard.[8]

>The storming of the aircraft killed 54 of the remaining 87 passengers, as well as two crew members and one hijacker. Only one hijacker — Omar Rezaq, who had survived — remained undetected by the Maltese government. The terrorist leader, who was injured during the storming of the aircraft, had removed his hood and ammunition and pretended to be an injured passenger. Egyptian commandos tracked Rezaq to St. Luke's General Hospital and, holding the doctors and medical staff at gunpoint, entered the casualty ward looking for him. He was arrested when some of the passengers in the hospital recognized him.

>A total of 58 of the 95 passengers and crew had died, as well as two of the three hijackers, by the time the crisis was over. Maltese medical examiners estimated that eight passengers were shot dead by the commandos.

Really, Egyptian SF rides that sweet spot of being too poorly-trained and funded to be anything but terrible, while being deployed by an important enough country for them to get the chance to fail in very public ways.

That doesn't fit OP's question. They BTFO themselves.

moscow theater hostage crisis, or the British american civil war lol

That was the fault of a shitty chopper pilot that got disoriented by the sand wake.

It also took place nowhere near a paramilitary force on a makeshift runway and it was an attempt to rescue embassy hostages from iran, a military force.

Does a National Defense force count as paramilitary?
Because SEALs got absolutely BTFO in Operation Nifty Package.

the comedy gold that was German Fallschrimjagers during the early war comes to mind

I mean, they got Noriega with only 4 killed at the end of the day. I wouldn't call that BTFO. They seriously fucked up the airbase raid, though.

>I would site black hawk down for delta but they bodied a fuckton of somalis
Battle of Mogadishu:
>19 KIA US soldiers
>200-500 dead somalis
That's pretty crazy

/thread

Take your pick of russians in Syria getting btfo by Kurds and ISIS.

>48 or 52 SEALS with AT weapons vs ~12 militia with a couple armored cars
>4 killed, 8 or 9 wounded
>1 plane destroyed with a rocket

SEALs didn't really get Noriega though, Catholics convinced him to surrender and paratroopers took initial custody.

I remember watching a TV episode about that raid and wondering how the fuck the SEAL were performing so poorly.

Wasn’t it, like, the first time the SEALs had been deployed since ‘Nam?

>Operation Nifty Package
>Although the operation was successful, National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft would later point to the psychological harassment of the Papal Nuncio as "a low moment in US Army history," noting that their approach had been silly, reproachable and undignified.

I wonder how long they would have lasted if they just blockaded them.

I don't know, probably. I know that one of the SEAL divers who they sent to blow up Noriega's boat also ruptured his ear drums from having to dive too quickly when a cargo ship came by. Don't know if he was left deaf after that, his ears were bleeding.

If we use Assange as a barometer, at least a couple years.

Usually a ruptured eardrum in the context of a diving injury won’t lead to deafness as long as it’s properly repaired. It’s definitely gonna lead to permanent hearing damage, though.

Sometimes everything that can go wrong does.

How would you know, Muhammad??

2015 Filipino Mamasapano Massacre.

>Filipino Police Commando
>Successfully hunting a Malaysian bomb
maker.
>Shot fired but forgot they're in the heart of guerrilla stronghold.
>No air support nor intelligence about surrounding area.
>Got hunted one by one and got essentially massacred. All of em' .
>Four Americans J-SOC were also killed.
>Even today their death were simply forgotten by Manila.

Who would win:
Sky-commandos or some swarthy farmers with pitchforks?

>shitty chopper pilot that got disoriented by the sand wake
Could you have done better? Are you an expert on piloting? Special operations aviation is often called upon to operate under conditions normally too unsafe. It's inevitable that even extremely competent people will fuck up over a long enough timeline

Wow, WTF?

On that note, didn't Delta shit the bed on one of their first missions?
I guess growing pains are to be expected.

ah, the good ol MILF vs FAP battles

Yeah like that one pilot who got shot down, took out two alqaeda wih a machine pistol and then killed or wounded their entire capture team by hand grenading himself. Total coward and failure.

If you were very smart, you’d remember that that was conducted by regular navy/marine pilots, and led to the formation of the 160th.

Surely you jest. These can’t be real acronyms.

This must have been the inspiration for that movie "the raid"

Sounds like you're not just not hardcore enough.

Not really. Actually MILF are pretty much cool with Filipino Police, even they fought together in Marawi. The cause of this foolish blunder due to arrogance of Filipino-MILF liaison officer and American J-SOC intelligence decided to keep the raid secret. This is what will happen when unknown armed group suddenly appears blasting guns unannounced on a basically home of MILF guerilla veterans.

No.

>Four Americans J-SOC were also killed.
Why does Jow Forums keep parroting unsupported claims by terrorist organizations? MILF published videos and pictures of the SAF bodies, up to and including their execution of wounded police, yet not a single image or video of the supposed J-SOC operators. Wait, don't tell me, all of their batteries were low, and in the 4 years since not one of them has had the time to charge them. Am I right?

Those weren't special forces. They were "special" forces.

The SEAL airbase raid during Panama comes to mind, when they got caught in the open with their pants down

Almost certainly not, they were doing clandestine shit like fucking about in Nicaragua, as well as operations in Grenada, Lebanon, etc

hardened veterans of numerous bloody campaigns and raids - can literally live off the land

Sophisticated CCC, unbreakable crypto

Can melt into the civilian population after action

Came here to post this except casualties for Australians should say 'dignity'.

Can you imagine 20,000 fucking emus?

In a row?

The US Military in Afghanistan

That shitshow in Niger a couple years ago where those green berets got slaughtered on camera after their convoy abandoned them

No, in a ragged and disorganized mess as far as you can see. The sky darkens and the clouds form as lightning flashes across the distant, gloomy sky

>On 19 February 1978, Egyptian special forces raided Larnaca International Airport near Larnaca, Cyprus, in an attempt to intervene in a hijacking.
>Earlier, two assassins had killed prominent Egyptian newspaper editor Yusuf Sibai and then rounded up as hostages several Arabs who were attending a convention in Nicosia.
>As Cypriot forces were trying to negotiate with the hostage-takers at the airport, Egyptian troops launched their own assault without authorization from the Cypriots.
>The unauthorized raid led to the Egyptians and the Cypriots exchanging gunfire, killing or injuring more than 20 of the Egyptian commandos.
>As a result, Egypt and Cyprus severed political ties for several years after the incident.

It's beautiful

Attached: violencemaxim.jpg (536x619, 407K)

>Following the assault, it emerged that the surrender of the two hostage-takers had already been secured at the time of the failed Egyptian attack, and the two men were taken prisoner by the Cypriots and later extradited to Egypt, where they received death sentences

IT GETS BETTER AAHAHAHAHAHA

Well, shit. I was gonna go edit it, but they've changed the template. And apparently there's an longrunning edit war over whether to characterize the outcome as "Failure" or "Decisive Emu Victory".

If anybody fucked up at Mogadishu it was the Generals. The US soldiers fought like demons but there's only so much you can do against 100 to 1 odds.

Poor Jimmy, his rep never recovered.

But also fuck em'
