Google "[city name] psychologists". Go to their office's website. Often they'll have profiles for each individual doctor, saying what their specialties are. Try looking for Google reviews if there are any. Also check their website to see if your insurance applies. Then you call them and ask for an appointment with a doctor, saying you're a new patient.

Is it worth it

Yes it is worth it my brother. Good luck with your recovery!

>Is it worth it
depends on who you ask honestly
it was worthless for me, but I'm a pathological liar so that was getting in the way even after I admitted it

Did you go to a therapist, psychiatrist, or psychologist?

What's the difference between the three

I don't know if therapy sessions could really help me but I don't want some drugs to fuck up my brain

I've heard some people have really good results with drugs like Valium though

Therapy is literally useless. If you actually have a real problem, they are required by law to report you to the police.

you know there are some real problems which are not against the law right

or you could be depressive without being suicidal

Psycology is a scam and most psycologist are evil and the sooner phycology is replaced with neurology the better

Psychologist is a counselor that will go through CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) to help deal with your depression. Psychiatrist is a medical doctor that did their specialization in mental disorders. They have drug prescribing abilities.

t. Involved in medical field

If you're making what can reasonably be construed as an active threat to yourself or others they are required to report you. Just keep talk of suicide to the "I don't really wanna live" stage and don't progress to the "I plan to do this so I stop living", at least with a therapist.

I think therapy is stupid unless you're in a state where you can do exactly what the therapist asks you to though, I can't and I've gotten nothing from it as a result. I'm one of those people Jordan Peterson says you can't help.

>the sooner phycology is replaced with neurology the better
These aren't the same. Neurology cares about the nervous system, psychology cares about human behaviors.

People who are a threat to themselves or others don't have enough mental faculties remaining to actually seek help.

It is also about the general study of the human brain through neurons and how they work and react to things

I don't really think I'm depressed, although I definitely have the symptoms for it

I recently dropped out of college last year, I failed almost all my classes, and my parents want to send me to therapy

You can buy a gun and bullets, find a place to shoot yourself and write out your note but still be adjusted enough to want to give therapy a chance.

But you won't give it a chance if you know they're going to forcibly stop you.

There are plenty of people depressed enough to want to kill themselves but mentally stable enough to refrain from telling others / their therapist

It's not ethical for me to give diagnosis or anything without actually doing a full work up. All I can say is, if you have something impairing your life that significantly, it may not hurt to look into therapy. I will say the quality really depends on the therapist though.

If you've been led to believe that therapy is something that may help you then you'll lie a bit or withhold saying how you really feel to give it a chance.

And it's okay that people are encouraged to withhold information from their therapists?

if you're in school/college/uni your school should have resources. if not, honestly just go to the hospital, say that you wanna kill yourself and are a danger to yourself and they'll hook you up really quickly.

No one formally encourages this, normies will tell you to withhold nothing and tell them the whole truth but the therapists have you sign actual forms saying that you understand that if you were to pose a threat to yourself or others then they're going to call the cops. If you don't want that(and you really don't) then you magically stop posing that threat or you lie/withhold info.

It's a grey area, if you're a therapist you want people who are literally inches away from taking a life to not do that but that means you can't help them like you would normal patients else you make one mistake and they're done for. They have to be admitted at that stage.

How would you go about finding a psychologist or psychiatrist user?

It seems many of the ones in my area aren't taking on new patients

Is CBT the same type of therapy the main character in the sopranos got
