How does an American "grade" correlate to an Australian "year"?

You start school at age 5 approx, in kindergarten, then the next year is called year 1. This year system continues until 12 when you do your final test. What the fuck is "4th grade". Is it just the same thing?

We start from beginning of Fall to the end of Spring, and generally it goes from kindergarten, where we learn the basics such as reading and writing, through to 5th or 6th grade for elementary school, then 7th-8th grade for middle school, then from there its 9th-12th for high school.

I've never learned a single useful thing through my time in public school.

I've been awake since yesterday and it's 7am.

Several reasons, some I'd rather not say due to the personal nature of them. Most of them left for colleges in other states, whereas I found a local one.

I don't know, I suppose after I've completed a satisfactory amount of work
I'll be going out to get something to put on the pancakes I'll be making, I'm going to get some bacon and danish bagel kinda things too
