What age did you move? I think someone without school would have a lot of trouble forming friendships. A lot of people create long term friendships based on school. Sometimes those friendships lead into new ones and replace the old with time. It did seem like she got involved in groups she cared about, but It must be more difficult. If her parents were controlling and others comments made her lose confidence in appearance, I can understand how some would give up on finding a friendship/relationship.
