Biggest Jow Forumsness mistakes you've made

what are some things you've done that you look back on and go, "wow, I was fucking stupid"?

>thought cardio was the only workout I needed for legs because "my legs are big enough"
>thought girls thought bodybuilders were sexy
>being jacked and ripped would get me a gf
>thought I could out train a bad diet
>didn't keep track of my macros
>dirty bulked and got stretch marks
>thought you only needed compound movements for abs
>shit form
>p90x
>pro hormones (have gyno now -- fuck yeah)

Id fuck the shit out of that milk maiden

Doing barbell squats

>thought cardio was the only workout I needed for legs because "my legs are big enough"
>what are some things you've done that you look back on and go, "wow, I was fucking stupid"?
Reading your post.

>thinking 5 small meals spaced out gets more gains than 3 king meals a day

>"i don't need to track my workouts or make a plan, I'll just do my best every time i go :) "
>2 years down the drain

Getting a live in gf

just cheat on her? not that hard

I unironically used to skip leg day

Idk my Abs are getting pretty strong from compounds

Training at home instead of using the gyms limitless sources of weights. Spent 2 months trying to make progress with 22 lb dumbbells. Also not wanting to go to the gym because of self consciousness, now idgafand wear tank tops while I work out which is way more motivational because a year before I was too fat for them

>not doing oly lifting when i started
>spending too much time socialising
>not lifting heavy with start
>not using roids

>tfw 2 years down the drain because i didnt 'want to lift for strength', stick to high reps at same weight
>tfw actually try increasing it and see how strong i could have been
mistakes were made but now I'm moving up. in just a few months of turning on this mindset my bench has gone up more than in two whole yrs. we are all gonna make it man, no time is spent wasted only learning

>Did brosplits for years. Thought that if I worked a muscle group more than once a week, it was over training.
>Did OHP seated and only came down halfway down my face (half ROM). Did this because every single retard in the gym does them this way. Lost about 50 lbs off my 1rm when I started doing them standing with full ROM.

I believed my dad's ex gf who was a pt had my best interests in mind.
Since i started my own path i am much happier

>didn't keep track of my macros
Redpill me, do i really need to do that if in already very dotting about my diet?
Does body builders really calculate shit like this?

>I believed my dad's ex gf who was a pt had my best interests in mind.
What interests did she have in mind?

>Does body builders really calculate shit like this?
Yeah

>Redpill me, do i really need to do that if in already very dotting about my diet?
No

Overtraining
> Got pretty fit at 20, went to martial arts classes 4 times a week, did bodyweight excersizes like standing pushups, finger pushups etc
> ONE MARTIAL CLASS IS NOT ENOUGH
> Go to another place, pretty serious karate school with heavy emphasis on cardio
> Puke the first time I go there
> Strain my wrists massively
> End up stopping it all alltogether

> A year later
> See Jow Forums
> Gonna go train!
> Strain so much doing squats I get hemoroids

> 2 years after that
> GONNA GO TRAIN
> Strain so much doing squats I get hemoroids (again, this was after the first were surgically removed)

> Give up on training

> Now
> Just started training again, turning my life around
> 10 minutes of bodysquats, pushups, crunches etc the first day
> 12 minutes the next and the day after again
> 14 minutes today
> Just various bodyweight excersizes to get myself a little bit fit again, SLOWLY
> Not gonna break my body this I hope

>thought supplements were a waste of money. Discovered the value of caffeine, creatine, and ZMA, 4 years late.

>despise(d) equipment so never used my belt or straps on any lifts, just struggled through. Repeatedly choked at a 475lb DL for almost 4 months. Finally belted up and blasted 500lbs for 2 reps like it was 315. Still feels like cheating somehow.

>didn't make any gym friends my first year. Recently discovered that bros and broettes can be extremely motivating. Knowing my body double bro is chasing my numbers keeps me to my gym schedule. Knowing my thicc ass latina gym wife is grunting on the platform raises my test sky fucking high. Knowing that the powerlifting old timer on TRT (wishes I were his son) wants to see me do well is extremely motivating since I had a distant father

And never pay more than $10 US for a gym. The weights are the same everywhere. As long as the gym has decent staff and equipment, there is no reason to pay anything more than the minimum you can get away with

Learn lifting technique, work with proper weight using a proper amount of sets and reps. How hard is that? Don't go 100%, stay at around 80%

Fucked up a bulk twice now doing a super long cut just to get back to base foundation and do a proper lean bulk

Dirty bulk and got stretch marks

That’s the only mistake I ever made

Not using gear

>kept my bench press at 40kg for months because I thought being strong didn't really have any benefit
>dad recently needed help bringing in a new fridge freezer
>could barely help him
>now trying to get to 100kg benchpress before end of 2019 because being strong matters

Same. I eat clean and just do compounds and my abs are fine.

I did all those, but I really had a hard time not going 110% when it came to pushing my body in a training situation

Now I'm 30 an more settled down/less self-competitive. I have hopes for more reasonable approach now. Also eat much better. MUCH better, used to drink 1,5-3 liters of cola a day and never really had any gains even when I trained the most (except for some increase in strength and of course cardio)

I spent ages only hitting each muscle group once a week.

I have limited time so 3 days is all I can spare and I did a meme PPL routine. Now I do full body like a good boy 3 times a week.

Getting married

not staying fully hydrated while on a bulk

your muscles won't grow if they're dried out

>your muscles won't grow if they're dried out
that's some mom science if I've ever heard it

Wouldn't carrying a fridge be more about back/ bicep strength?

probably it was more just the realization that strength is very helpful and 'not wanting to get too strong' was just stupid of me

>machines get you aesthetic.
I had no strength, so they helped me a little but last year would've been much more productive if I did bar bell exercises.

>body says I'm a woman
>face says I need help finding the value of (x)

fuck. my dick is confused.

>Being retarded enough to argue against proper hydration.

The OHP thing needlessly triggers me. I always bring it to rest where it would be if I really had something across the front of my torso and had to lift it (at the clavicle)... I'm repping maybe lmao 1pl8 for 5 on a good day and along comes turbo who does 1.5pl8 to his nose with a huge incline in his back.

>Implying most women can do basic algebra

>"I didn't 'want to lift for strength', stick to high reps at same weight"

My gym buddy is literally doing this right now, I suggested he should follow a tried and tested workout plan which is based around his 1 rep max and he replied with..."I'm not lifting for numbers, I just want to be healthy"

How can I make him see the light? He goes to the gym 4 times a week and is just doing arbitrary numbers and exercises when he sees fit.

Attached: 1509904301393.jpg (324x451, 14K)

pick up his girlfriend and fuck her while staring into his eyes and whispering "If you had functional strength, this would've never happened."

>be 18 year old me
>college freshman, a bit fat
>go to the gym for the first time in my life
>fuck around in the gym having not a single idea of what I'm doing or what muscles I'm working
>do all machines and hit all muscles
>couldn't lift my arms after i finished
>sore for the next few days but it felt fucking amazing, almost like i was high.
>felt like i could take on the world and do whatever i want

>next visit an incident happens that made me feel embarrassed and never went back to the gym since
>somehow forgot that awesome feeling of working out
>fast forward 3 years
>decided to go to the gym again because i reached obese mode and my life felt like absolute dog shit compared to when i was 18
>tfw didn't have the same test levels i had back then because i became a fat fuck
>if only i continued when i started

Now I'm half way to getting out of fat mode, but i really regret not starting earlier.
It fucking sucks being fat in your 20s, it hurts even more to keep remembering how i didn't go back to the gym again.
If you're 18-19 and you just started, don't fucking stop no matter what. Don't do the same mistakes i did

Attached: 1468835602457.gif (245x263, 2.75M)

Your body needs water to carry out ATP which fuels cell growth. In other words you're a retard.

Rustles my jimmies when someone starts training the same lift next to me; with worse form or in the smith machine but with slightly more weight

OHP in general frustrates me. Y come I can slay one weight for reps but if I add 20 lbs I can't get one?

>next visit an incident happens
Ok, I'll take the bait

prime pussy yasss

kek

>>next visit an incident happens that made me feel embarrassed and never went back to the gym since
C'mon now, you're among friends here

Attached: 1345054283841.png (322x377, 150K)

guy you replied to here, problem is i saw pretty big hypertrophy and actually put on a lot of mass. but i realized in the past few months it was pathetic that my stats were so low and I'm still natty so even if i look decently big, for the effort I'm putting in, I'll never look as big as i want to. then as soon as i started hitting prs i realized how great it felt. you should try telling him about the rush that you get when you put up heavy weight and about the eternal natty dilemma

lifting without being on a proper diet

He doesnt have a gf but his aunt works with me. Will that work?

Thanks for replying, ill give it a go. Though he is displaying the attitude of "If I don't try I dont fail.", I think he is scared of not being able to improve, stalling or hitting a plateau.

didn't want to make my post too long but here it is
>gym is bit small and crowded
>some tall fit chad who is probably in some sports team is doing lateral raises next to a machine i wanted to use
>because i was an autistic manlet, i didn't wait for to finish his set and tried to sneak by around him
>end up interrupting him instead and hit by the dumbbell in the face
>chad looks at his buddy across the gym and they smirk with a 'wtf is this guy doing' face
>autism kicks in, didn't even apologize and left the gym asap never to be seen again
>they probably forgot i existed minutes after that happened

Attached: 1442635327808.jpg (1200x798, 257K)

I tried the OPM routine.

how long were you doing barbell squat until you fucked up?

that's what i was scared of too, but its a much better feel failing on weights that other people can't even unrack than having to tell people "yeah ive been lifting for years but my bench is x.. nah i just dont train to be strong" imo, you might have luck if you tell him that maybe? hope it works out for u guys

I wasted a year doing this on and off. Fucking cardio and shitty machines with no goal = no gains. Now I've been on sl5x5 since October and have been making good progress. Can't wait to hit 140kg squat so I can finally cut and get rid of my belly.

>just do heavy compounds
>don't do variations
>machines are for fags
>SS is good
>doesn't matter if you get fat

>thought you only needed compound movements for abs
Please tell me why this isn't the case. How can anyone squat 3+pl8 and diddly 4+pl8 and not have well developed abs?
t. I fucking hate ab isolations and I don't want to do them but a six pack would be sweet after I cut.

Attached: q5m54n4fk1921.jpg (400x400, 21K)

Attached: 1479630570098.jpg (620x414, 56K)

If your abs are weak you cant progress past a certain point as your back can’t take it and will snap your shit up. I made the same mistake not doing any ab work. I deloaded during my cut focus on core more and I already feel more sturdy despite losing 40 pounds from when I started the cut

What are some ab excercises that you can progressively overload properly? Doing decline crunches with a pl8 aint doing it for me.

Her own. She wanted me to depend on her so my dad doesn't dump her, which eventually, of course, he did. Ironic.

>I suggested he should follow a tried and tested workout plan which is based around his 1 rep max
% based programs like the one you suggest are practically useless. there are a multitude of other factors which impact on how you should structure your daily training with your working 1-rep max being the least of your concern.
it still amazes me after al these years on /fit that still no-one has progressed enough in their own training to have had to encounter the conundrum of having to think deeply about how to keep progressing.
everyone is just a fucking absolute neophyte here. bizarre.

Attached: 48ee99e0-70fe-430d-874e-fc2a9d7adced_570.jpg (416x570, 163K)

i second this question

Duct tape more weight to the pl8.

not doing a brosplit from day 1

progressive overload doesnt mean just increasing weight; in fact it very rarely does.
overload can mean an increase in complexity of movement, an increase in accessory muscle involvement (or conversely, a decrease in accessory muscle involvement), progression from non-ballistic movement to more ballistic (think dan john's goat bag swings to rgular swings etc), overload can come in the form of complexes of movements done without rest, etc etc etc

Why? What's wrong with that?

Is it possible to learn how to get a pt gf?

Working out more than once a week

Attached: 1432838977805.jpg (438x238, 53K)

Fucking hell, learn what your maximum recoverable volume is, account for rest DAYS (at least two per week) and make a fucking plan that you stick to, this isn’t getting you anywhere

Clearly you are an idiot if you think you were training 110%. And your percentages are completely off then.

Yeah, all that shit you typed out is too complicated for the average Jow Forumsizen. You could have just said "start working your way to doing standing ab wheel roll-outs"

Oh sweat, simple child

Not at the gym.
Idk, my dad's affluent, fat and "charming". But i think charming is a buzzword in this case.

This, brosplit is king

Yo, if you are still around. As i mentioned in my post beforehand my firend was plucking out random numbers and sets for his workouts, without any real progressive goals. If not using your 1rep max as a number to record overall strenth improvment, what would you suggest?

Jerry rig a band.

My biggest mistake was thinking I was going to make it. I was 195 lbs skinnyfat and wanted to get rid of my fucking belly fat in ~6 months.
I changed my diet, did the calculations through a TDEE calc, work out using an Athlean-X AX-1 bro-split program and still have a bit of that stupid gut left.

It's so hopelessly demoralizing.

not the guy you replied to, but I go by what weight I can push for a particular rep range. for chest press, if I can do X weight of at least 10-12x3, then next time I'll do X+5. somehow you need to remember where you are so that you can see when you've improved. your friend was retarded or ignorant I guess
>charming
all the incel alt right autistic screeching virgins whatever you want to call them that jump at every opportunity to rag on women "ironically" or seriously don't realize that they forgot to spec into charisma when leveling their character

I know for certain that I'll never have a significant other because I'm too damn scared to ask anyone, much less approach someone and talk to them
is a brosplit where you separate push, pull, and legs? ideally I'd do one day push, one day pull, one day legs/shoulders

>is a brosplit where you separate push, pull, and legs
brosplit is when you split chest, shoulders, legs back, arms etc
although I just do biceps everyday

What's your routine?

Most were dietary ones

>Not realizing fruit/juice/diet soda ruins your cut completely (insuline completely inhibits fat-loss)
>2 cheat days/week (now just 1)

Attached: 1545601347971.jpg (631x616, 165K)

>Lift for football in hs
>get some decent gains in terms of strength but not a heck of a lot of visible difference
>continue in college because dont want to lose what I've gained
>again, notice difference in numbers being lifted but steel feel like a fatty and dont think my muscles look that big considering going hard for 3+ years now
>stop going once I start working full time because I don't feel the gains were worth it and my gf at the time botching about me never being home
>looking back at it she was probably jealous that girls like the way I looked for some reason
>a few years later I'm comparing pictures of myself between now and then
>I was a bit chubby but built like a goddam bull
>shoulders, quads, lats triceps and calves are swole as fuck.

I'm still strong fat, I've always been naturally strong but I wish I took pictures of before and after. Been going at it again but I had to start from ground zero.

did not
eat enough.

>SS
>gomad
>neglecting arms and shoulders and calves and forearms, aka the muscles that actually make or break a physique

>avoiding ab training because of retards online who keep memeing about muh compounds training core enough

p90x isa shitty meme workout but their ab routine is pretty good.

shit man un ironic gde

39 year old Boomer here

Never lifted consistently, would go for years at a time, but would also stop for years at time - lost motivation, life changes, moves etc.

Time catches up with you and it body doesn't react how it once did. Have to put more emphasis on stretching, recovery, diet.

The biggest thing is putting in a consistent effort and have internal motivation - not training for summer, for getting the dick wet - Now, it's all about being in prime condition to grab life by the testicles every chance - knowing I can rip up a mountain and back on the weekend. I can swing a golf club like a 20 year old for 2-3 days if I so desire or go play some beer league hockey and the young fags ask where I played junior hockey at.

Stretch marks everywhere from being fat in high school

I wanna kms and start over

The effects of aspartam/saccharine/sucralose is almost identical to sugar. You ever seen a diabetic drink coke zero? No you haven't because they don't

>Diet sodas may also create issues specifically for people with diabetes. A study published in Nature showed that, in mice, artificial sweeteners can lead to a spike in insulin.

>In the experiment, researchers discovered that artificial sweeteners can trigger sweet receptors in the stomach. This leads to an increase in insulin and lowered blood sugar. The stomach was essentially treating the artificial sweetener like real sugar, causing a spike in insulin. Researchers found this concerning but also said the spike in insulin wouldn’t likely cause clinical hypoglycemia, a risk for people on certain diabetes medications.

Diet sodas are literally pointless unless you just prefer the flavor of diet version.

>go to cheap gym cause broke af 14 yo
>trainer gives me a printed sheet with a routine, probably downloaded from yahoo answers
>says it'll never change cause there's no point in changing it
>ok.jpeg
>ask how many times I should gym
>dude says 2x week is enough
>6 months later
>no progress

I wish I had a total dude bro since I was a kid. Like an actual Senpai that'll teach me how to git gud at muscles and how to git gud at life.

this whole time I thought it was just separating push and pull. it seemed pretty sensible, but now I am enlightened
you can make gains going twice a week. depends on how hard/smart you train

fucking christ op post more of her
dont ever make your picture more interesting than your OP

doing the butterfly stroke as a warmup

>would come before inside pussy

If you can live with that guilt youre a horrible person and shouldnt have kids
