How do you drink your whiskey?

I am not big into whiskey but I was gifted this and I must say adding a fair amount of water seems to really cut down the bite and bring out the flavor

with ice

anything else is heresy

I'd say 1 part water for every 3 parts whiskey at most. you want that bite still really, its part of the experience of drinking whiskey.

what do you do for a living op?

when's the last time you kissed a girl?

Try adding only a few drops of water if you really want to bring out the flavor
It may work, it may not
Not all whiskey is the same

Ice. In a club some coke but that's it.

grad student I was kissed once as a dare several years ago

yeah I think I put too much water in this its like 50/50. How do you feel about highballs?

>ice only

This, especially if you buy a nice whiskey

maybe I just have fucked taste buds, but I prefer whiskey neat. Just seems a bit of a waste to water it down.

With you there. Never felt the need for water or ice.

Should i buy a jameson? For a first time

I do not consume alcohol anymore. I never liked whisky, either.

You can just drink it over ice, or get club soda/mixing soda and do a 50/50 split. Don't mix with Coke or Pepsi or whatever. Spergs don't know any better but whisky soda is a classic and plebs think that "whisky soda" is mixing with coke or something like a frat boy.

I'm a fan of Tullamore Dew for Irish whisky, not that user though. I always drink my Irish whiskies neat though. Scotch and bourbon I'll do whisky sodas or with ice if it's not too smokey, and Japanese whiskies are good with a splash of DRY ginger ale - make sure it's dry. If you're drinking really fine whisky, many times it's good to put a small bit of ice in it or a few drops of distilled water to "open it up" - I like this approach if it's a fine bourbon.

Wow thanks for the insight

>watering alcohol
Give it to somebody who actually would appreciate it.

I just slam some jack and coke every night, and some mornings like right now

Are you retarted? The cold temperature and melting ice dilute the flavor. Just because all you're favorite movie characters do it doesn't make it right. You should drink it neat

user, there is no correct way to enjoy spirits as long as they make you happy.
Of course "neat" is the true essence of the spirit, that is what the distiller was aiming for, but that doesn't mean you can't improve upon the flavor to suit your own taste. And if that means drinking your $ 700 Hibiki 17 with some coke, that's what it is.

Don't add anything to your whiskey! It destroys the taste. Just drink it as it is. It might taste a bit strong in the beginning but at the end of the bottle it will taste delicious. Try drinking one glass at a time and don't drink it too fast.

Try Dalwhinnie. It is a lot softer than Jameson.

If it's too hard to sip it straight then just dilute it with water or drink it on the rocks, you only need a bit of water to mute the strong taste of ethanol and bring the other flavors of the liquor forward

I know it seems like snake oil but getting a proper whiskey sipping glass can enhance the experience, they're designed to "capture" the scents rising from the liquor so you can gently sniff it before drinking and take them in more easily

How's the whiskey in OP picture? What other types of liquor do you like sipping? I haven't tried a ton of other stuff yet but so far I've been liking brandy, haven't had good luck picking out vodka or tequila

on top of a big ice cube. Water is part of the whiskey experience but I like to feel it "develop" as the ice melts into the whiskey.

I just gulp it straight from the bottle, what's the point of doing some gay rituals?

>How's the whiskey in OP picture?
It is what you'd expect something with a price tag like that to be.

Pour it into your anus

Neat. If its tosser whiskey I'll mix it with whatever matches its flavor. For example, Bowmore is a pretty meek Scotch, add some Amaretto. That 100 proof Knob Creek (the 80 is good though) works well with coke. Jameson and ginger beer goes well together. What you have there is good shit, regift to someone you know that likes whiskey.

Ice. As it melts it dilutes so at first you get the bite before gradually mellowing and bringing out the flavor.

it's perfectly fine to add mineral water
try sprinkle water
kek you are the heretic for not having steel cubes.
Ice is the same as watering down whiskey

I've had exactly 1 bottle of Yamazaki 12 year and it was a couple years back, that said I remember it being vaguely "fruity" which I had read in a review as a sort of plum. It's definitely very soft and very versatile, I drank it neat, splash water, ice, soda and dry ginger ale and it was excellent in all these cases. Wanted to try different things with it since it was my first Japanese whisky. My only complaint is that the flavor isn't what I expect out of a whisky so I got tired of it by the end of the bottle, but that's a matter of personal taste. Since then I've had Suntory's Toki, which is a cheaper blended whisky they sell. It's 2/3 the price of Yamazaki 12 year and at least to my palate, just as good.

>Don't add anything to your whiskey! It destroys the taste.
Let's set this straight. There are sipping whiskies which you absolutely shouldn't add anything to. They're brewed to be expensive festive drinks that you taste with friends or colleagues. You probably wouldn't even pour them into a tumbler, and if you did it wouldn't be more than a finger's worth. More likely you'd be sipping out of a sort of "taster's glass" that I don't know the proper name for since this isn't really my area of expertise. They're brewed and aged in certain fashions to be particularly flavorful for sipping.

Something like the aforementioned Toki though shouldn't be put on a pedestal. It's still a $60 bottle at full retail but people are afraid to mistreat their drink because whisky is a particularly beloved drink. A lot of people say "never mix any whisky - ever" because whisky neat is commendable and never wrong. However, in a lot of ways these people are just playing it safe, and whisky is meant to be enjoyed how you like it. Historically there are many good options for mixed whiskies and I encourage people to explore them. Don't be the guy treating whisky like a basic bitch alcohol (looking at you rum) but a little mixing/club soda, ice, dry ginger ales or purified water are all reasonable options. Google around for more and user common sense - if it looks like something a roastie would order, it is. Keep things simple and the drink should be predominantly the whisky, because whisky is good.

I got Hibiki for Christmas yesterday. If you like fruity, citrus, and rich oak flavors then you'll like it.

It's foreign though, so 60 - 80 bucks isn't exactly what it's worth but if you can order it cheap from Japan then you get the best value.

Just a thimble per 250ml.

>It's 2/3 the price of Yamazaki 12 year and at least to my palate, just as good.
Meant to type 1/3 here

I've been trying to chase down a taste of the 17 or 21 year Hibikis. Around here the 12 year bottles are ~$110, I probably can't afford a taster of the others without getting it at a tasting event.

>Anything else is herrasy
Big fax

Of course robots are a bunch of alkies

Maybe a drop of water. Besides cask strength whiskey has a fuller range of aromas and flavors than the diluted crap.

Drink this or islay whiskey its the so good.

Lagavulin 16 is very, very strong.

Its only an extra few percent m8

Straight from the bottle. I buy cheap whiskey. I'd probably drink good whiskey with a bit of ice.

I like nice vodka smooth.

Always gag at whiskey. Sometimes drink it neat with a cigar
