I asked a bunch of my artist friends for direct criticism, could be harsh or not, I asked them for tips and tricks, layer types, etc. and lastly it's practice, lots and lots of it, traditional, digital, anything really.

my current art is the result of just over 1.5 years of practice. the drawing itself took just over 4 hours because I'm a slow sketcher.

practice anatomy a lot, believe me; a human characters looks much more appealing when they look right. play around with differnt functions in your art software (like layer types, brushes) experimenting can get you to the things you want.

the software I use is Clip Studio Paint, which is amazing value for its price and goes on sale a lot. The tablet I use is a Wacom Intuos Pro, which is affordable but has no screen, if you want one that's affordable and has a screen check out Huion tablets.
