What is /fast/?
Fast is a thread for the discussion of intermittent fasting, fasting, water fasting, and dry fasting.

What’s the difference between intermittent fasting, water fasting, dry fasting, etc.?
Intermittent fasting: Fasting for a certain amount of time with a short eating window. 16:8 (16 hours fasting, 8 hour eating window) is the bare minimum.
Water fasting: Fasting with only water.
Dry fasting: Fasting with no water. Dangerous, use with caution.

How do I safely do an extended fast?
Take snake juice, or just supplement electrolytes.
Water=2L
Potassium chloride =1 tsp (No Salt)
Sodium chloride = 1/2 tsp (Himalayan Pink Salt)
Sodium Bicarbonate = 1 tsp (Baking Soda)
Magnesium Sulphate = 1/2 tsp (Food Grade Epsom Salts)
Mix these in 2L of water and sip it throughout the day.
[OPTIONAL] 2 tbsp Apple cider vinegar and 4 tbsp lemon juice. DO NOT MIX with snake juice, drink separately.
You can also do this if you feel lightheaded, weak, dizzy, nauseous, etc., on shorter water fasts. Don’t do this while intermittent fasting.

Won’t I go into starvation mode?
No. The mainstream definition of starvation mode is a myth. Read the FAQ linked below for more information.

Will (something with calories) break my fast?
Yes.

Can I drink coffee, tea, and diet soda? Or anything with artificial sweeteners?
You can do whatever the fuck you want. We recommend avoiding those, sweeteners especially.

Do I need a multivitamin?
No

If my BMR is 1800, doesn’t that mean I just have to go like 37 days fasted to drop 10%?

Also in this model does that mean OMAD would need 37 days, while 48s would need 19 total fasted days or does the refeed mean 48s would take 37 days?

Autophagy happens anyway, but on dry fasting it's elevated. It's extremely good if you have chronic inflammation, loose skin, scars and other damaged cells you want to heal. You're going to feel like shit though, so if your goal is just weight loss just extend your sj fasts more

I wouldn't start on 72s. I have started this fast thing two times now(fasted 48s-96s for a few months last spring-summer and picked it up again like two months ago) and both times the first days were a fucking bitch and it might put you off. You get used to it fast tho so it gets better so keep that in mind if you feel like quitting early.
I'd say do OMAD for a couple days, then do a couple 48s, then try to push for as long as you want.

Day 4 of my indefinite fast: I've been spacing out everytime I stand up when I've been sitting/lying down for too long (like when you squat for a bit then stand up quickly and blow on your thumb); this also happened last week when I did my 3 day fast.

It replaces your electrolytes (mainly sodium and potassium) that you use up when you move, sweat, or piss.

If you're fat enough, theoretically that's the only thing you need until you get lean since fats store enough energy in them, as well as the extra vitamins. So basically you'd just need to top up your electrolytes on the snake diet when you're fasting.

So the closest thing I've found in my country for potassium is pic related, dubbed "diet salt"
The whole problem is that there seems to be carbs (glucide) in this particular salt, 84kcal / 100g, in the form of corn starch.
I'm guessing this is not good for fasting / shake juice purposes, huh? I don't know what the heck is wrong with my country, there doesn't seem to be potassium anywhere I look. It's literally non existent here and I don't know how to make the juice.
Can I purchase potassium in any other way? Like tablets from the pharmacy?

Artificially sweetened drinks do cause a rise in insulin, not a ginormous spike, but they do. It doesn't ruin your fast but the point of a fast is to keep your insulin as low as possible. Dr. Fung said it, Snake man said it, I've posted the medical links in here before. It won't ruin the fast but it's not optimal.

Yes. It will take you a long ass time to look good, don't rush things. You don't have all that much fat to lose, just a lot of skin. I'd recommend eating at your tdee*1.2 at a small window 6 days a week and dryfasting 1. Remember, when you have muscle, losing fat becomes easier. If you're not morbidly obese, gaining muscle should take priority over losing fat.
At any rate, you need to dryfast that shit off. But first you need to build muscle. Gaining lean mass will have the added benefit of filling you out, so you will not only lose fat faster, you'll also have to autophagy away less of your skin to look tight

Fasting is muscle sparing in general. Also, it's better to feed right after the workout. A very small meal of simple carbs might be helpful to eat right before the workout. Say like 400-500 calories. Then eat the rest of your calories after the workout and fall into a coma
You're going to lose the weight, that's a given. But you might miss out on the autophagy effect. Meaning no healing and possible muscle atrophy. Fung says to avoid artificial sweeteners.

If you want to bulk, You should be eating moderate carb meals with lean meat and veggies.
Ideally you should have half veggies and half meat to keep your cholesterol down. You want to grill your meat. Chicken is cool.
If you want to bulk while fasting and build muscle, it all depends on how hard you train

after reading some BMJ studies I've decided to try out eating pescetarian (low mercury cheap whole fish mostly - eg herring, mackerel, sardines)
my main problem is I get bored of what I eat and have no idea how to incorporate vegetables (but for that I probably just need a recipe book -- I'm a student though so I need to be careful, and getting enough calories to bulk in can be a pain)

Also to add, You can't do long hard fasts if you are building muscle. To support bigger muscles, You need more food and protein, Hence you cannot fast for 8 days straight and cannot fast aggressively. If you are building muscle and training very hard you need to have small fast windows of 16 to 24 hours so that you can support those gym seshes. The more muscle you gain, The more you need to eat, Therefore the less you can fast, It's that simple.

For lifting and cardio, The night before you workout. You can do OMAD because you are training every day so you will maintain your weight will still be getting gains, This would be advised. Since you have a very hardcore routine, I would not suggest fasting for more than 12 hours. If you are concerned about incorporating fasting for cutting into your routine, I would tone down your routine and get to a lean mass with little bf% then do the fasting.

What got me into the idea of doing Keto first was three things.

- Near total inability to get to sleep at the end of day 2 when I run out of glycogen and my body takes my brain hostage and won't let me sleep (unless I have sleeping pills), you feel like total shit and I'm convinced there is a strong genetic component to getting into ketosis/fasting easier or faster and some guys just have a better time of it than others. That part turns my insomnia up to 11.

- That I can reap the benefits of a 3+ day fast, faster as I'm in ketosis straight away and getting those autophagy gains for longer.

- Shit is just plain old more comfortable.

Yes, You will have way more success coming from a keto diet than a high carb mcdonalds sugar diet. It sucks when you have a work schedule but luckily I get 3 days off a week to set it up. If it is less than 20, you are physically unfit and will always look like and feel like shit.

With all that loose skin you have, you need to get bigger to fill it out.

There are studies in dogs and primates showing that a diet where you alternate between keto and carb-inclusive leads to better results in longevity and quality of life. Whereas the keto-only had the same results as carb-inclusive-only.

But your not supposed to eat a ketogenic diet.
You enter ketosis when fasting and then break ketosis with a meal. That is the optimal way.

it is the refeeding period. if your body isnt used to fasting at all, the gut biome can get pretty fucked upon the reintroduction of food. you adapt to it but yeah just eat very simple foods do avoid refeeding disasters
