Really just comes down to being low bodyfat, similar to abs. At higher bodyfat, you can still have decent shape of the back with sloping upper-traps and wide lats, but if you want all those little bumps and grooves from the various back muscles like in the OP pic, you need to lose weight

Is it more important to go heavy or to mind-muscle? When I go heavy on rows and pulldowns I feel like my lats disengage and bis/shoulders take over. But you see a lot of guys maxing out the machines and shit like that
