Is Myfitnesspal legit when it comes to tracking your calories?

I'm a skeleton trying to bulk up. I installed the app recently, and today tried to have a full day of eating my goal amount of calories. I'm 55kg and around 6'0", so it told me I should be eating around 2600 calories per day. Challenge accepted.

But I ate a TON today, and yet at the end of the day, I'm nowhere near my daily goal. Are the amounts of calories just fucked up on the app, or do I seriously need to be eating more than double what I ate today if I want to gain weight?

I ate two bowls of cereal for breakfast, a local meat/potato/onion dish for lunch (which was difficult to find on the app so i don't know if i logged the right one), and four fried eggs for dinner with a piece of toast. All of those things seem pretty high in protein and calories to me.

Do you think that this would be enough, and the app just has its measurements wrong? Or should I literally be eating more than eight eggs, four bowls of cereal, and even more meat and potatoes every day???

The goal it sets you can be bullshit, it’s just too hard to predict without knowing your body fat percentage, height, musculature etc. You should let your weight gain/loss be your ultimate guide

Counting calories is a meme, my dude. Especially if you're just trying to gain weight. Eye ball stuff, round it off, add it up. It's not that difficult.

If you do insist on pulling out your phone and tediously scanning every single damn thing you eat then yes, myfitnesspal works. You will, however, quickly realize how silly you're being instead of just doing the aforementioned above.

As someone bulking too, you're gonna be a little surprised at how much you have to eat. You need to be eating all day.

I'm almost 6' and the lightest I've ever been was 68kg and I was literally starving myself to get there and permanently hungry af

App works for counting. Weigh yourself daily and take a weekly average to make sure it's calculating your tdee correctly and adjust accordingly. I have it set to inactive or w/e and 1lb loss a week and every week I lose two lbs. It makes it easy but always err on the side of caution if something seems like it's wrong it probably is.

I drink my shakes with water and generally don't eat large variety of food.
Also I eat same meals for 2-3 days so I just copy the meals from the previous day most of the time.

It works well. If you're not gaining weight after a week or two, just add another 250 calories or so.

I used it years ago to bulk from 155 lbs otter to 211 lbs builtfat, and then used it to cut to 170 lbs later on.

Just remember a slow/steady bulk is best.

It literally has everything i've ever tried. from super local small town chinese brand spices to local euro oatmeals.

i don't understand how people find it hard to bulk. i eat 3k cals of healthy food and i'm having to cut it down to lose weight.
breakfast: 4 eggs, 2 pieces of toast
lunch: protein, greek yogurt, and fruit smoothie. nuts, jerkey, and sunflower seeds.
dinner: 1lb beef or chicken, or tuna. 2 cans of vegetables.

that's me at 2,600 cals. normally, i would also eat a can of soup with 2 pieces of microwavable chicken for 3k cals

Eggs are 60-70 calories each depending on the size, so your dinner was 240-280 calories + probably 120 calories or so for the fat you fried the eggs in. So that's 400 calories for dinner, give or take, not even 25% of your daily goal.

You do have to be careful to make sure the items you plug into MFP use accurate nutritional data, but from your anecdote you're simply not eating enough.

Need to concentrate on nutrient dense foods if you're not closer on the scale of being a food addict. I would hazard to guess your protein intake is insufficient. Keep in mind that you gain on average 1.5 pounds of muscle a month if you're doing everything right, and are on noobie gains.

Typically what people do is meal plan, or prepare their meals so its easy to eat multiple times per day. Typically that is going to be a carnivore heavy diet because plant based foods are shit for bioaviailabilty, heavy on carbs.

The biggest issue I had with Myfitnesspal is that if you aren't eating bought or canned food and instead cook for yourself you often hit a wall and can't find your meal there.
This is where Chronometer is actually better, but honestly I don't know how correct the information it gives you and Myfitness pal at least has a widget which I found useful.

None of those meals even came close to breaking 1000 calories, which is what you basically need 3 times a day.

For me, it's the McChicken. The best fast food sandwich. I even ask for extra McChicken sauce packets and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.

One time I asked for McChicken sauce packets and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly McDonald's worker laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!".

Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me three packets. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McDonald's restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs.

I even dip my fries in McChicken sauce, it's delicious! What a great restaurant.

Let me put things into perspective for you. I just smashed a 4lb burrito (literally. I was 4lbs heavier after eating it), and if you are approaching gaining weight with a mindset like that, you're not going to make it.

As someone who went from 115lbs to 165lbs in about a year, my best advice is to eat every 3 hours and eat past the point where you are full.

You can enter recipes into mfp for your home cooking. It has an option to import recipes from online too.
