True, but NYC is by far the most important city in modern history, and will likely be one of the most important in general history. Posterity will look at NYC in the same way they looked at Athens or Rome.

Not for everyone and certainly not without their flaws but both London and NYC are exciting places to live or even visit.

While many people seem to complain about tourists theres something I like about seeing tourists on a daily basis come to see your city.

Food is good. rent and overall cost of living is expensive. If you want a large house with a garden and garages its not for you. if you dont mind small apartments and minimalist life you may just like it.

Oh and superb public transport and not having to rely on driving is nice once you get used to it.
The MTA has its problems but 121 dollars a month is very reasonable.
The underground in London is more expensive but still reasonable compared to the cost of driving.

I do enjoy cars and driving but in the city its not fun.

Yeah 1700 is a decent price. Here you should expect to pay 1600 minimum for an okay place but easily 2k. Manhattan 2k is the entry point and youre lucky to get a nice place for that.

I been to both London and New York as a tourist. I live in England anyway so maybe I'm biased but London is better for the amount of free things you can do, but when I went to New York and everything was absolutely beautiful

I've lived in the Bronx for the past few years and I love it. I would much rather live in Manhattan or Brooklyn so I could be closer to my friends but my neighborhood is quiet, cheap, and surprisingly safe. The only thing I hate is the commute to the city.

I'm a student so I'm not currently working. During the summer I have an office job in midtown that takes ~20m on the metronorth train, but monthly passes for metronorth are like $230. If I'm going downtown or to brooklyn, it's usually an hour or more on the subway.

Big cities are great if two conditions are satisfied:
1.) You're an extrovert who knows a bunch of people and prefers going out and doing something, anything, to sitting at home.
2.) You have money. Ideally lots and lots of it, but any amount where you don't need to really think about the cost of living will do.

if your life meets one but not the other you'll be okay but not entirely satisfied. if you meet neither life will be hell and you'll want to gtfo if at all possible.

I'm an extreme introvert who lives in a nice white quiet neighborhood in NYC and make a lot of money. It's extremely comfy -- everything you want is in walking distance (I've lived in rural areas where getting in the car and driving 20 mins to get to the grocery store is a pain in the fucking ass) and you can go to the symphony, see plays, have some of the best film theaters/festivals in the world, and you feel superior because you live in the best city in the world.

Either you make a lot of money and live wherever you want or you live in shitty Bedstuy or Bushwick with 6 other people and are lucky to have your own room in the basement with no windows.

I don't get why so many cityfags love walking places so much. As soon as there's one day that's either freezing cold or boiling hot, driving sounds quite nice. Besides, getting around in your own private box instead of having to be next to other people on a sidewalk, bus, train, etc sounds a lot better, especially for an "extreme introvert". Saving a few minutes when going to the grocery store isn't worth having so goddamned many people right fucking next to you 24/7.
