Of course there are still a lot of superficial Joy Division and The Cure fans out there. But how many people dig deeper into the history of the genres and try to discover new or lesser known bands?
When I try to talk with other millenials about old school 80s dark culture genres like Goth Rock, Industrial or EBM, they just assume I mean that cyber goth techno stuff or in the case of Post-Punk wannabe emo bands like Black Veil Brides. I know there are a lot of guys on the internet who like that stuff but little do I find people in real life who would even give post punk music a try.
By the way, I just leave some links to german New Wave songs:
have you heard moss icon? they come from my hometown

I'm extremely familiar with all the subgenres you've posted but it's not my cup of tea desu. I'm more of a extreme electronics/extreme punk/extreme metal kind of person.
Wow, I gave them a try now and though I don't know exactly what genre it's supposed to be, I still like it a lot. Thanks for the tipp!

Thanks for the links. Do you also listen to Atmospheric Black Metal and Blackgaze? Some bands of these genres also include darkwave and gothic rock influence.
Not really my cup of tea. Here's a cool surf rock track that's influenced by post-punk, and 80s -wave and shoegaze. youtube.com/watch?v=jx1R79OFMfs
Oliver Campbell
they came from the dc 80’s hardcore scene and started adding more dark elements to what they were doing. i tend to think of them as post-punk as well, but they kept the aggression of punk
Logan Harris
idk about EBM but recently i started to listen to IDM and i somewhat like it but it's very close to techno , don't you think ? i haven't cared about metal my whole life as i thought it was all cringey screaming but my friend who likes metal a lot made me listen to some songs and i was hooked i remember "dancing with the devil" by benjamin and i really like it
Some of today's most experimental and innovative artists come from the metal scene.
I didn't believe combining jazz, black metal, industrial and trance music was possible until I heard Shining. I've heard people describe their sound as King Crimson having sex with a robot. youtube.com/watch?v=RIEtJOlwV68
no such thing as "real music" elitist faggot and if there was it would be classic you nigger fuck ((pls suggest some songs similar to dancing with the devil by benjamin))
