Be atheist for most of my life

>be atheist for most of my life
>read old testament
>try larping as an orthodox for a day
>feel like an idiot by the end of it, listen to atheist youtubers/podcasters to redpill myself
>still treat it as a holy scripture unconsciously and want to read it daily, still feel like crossing myself and mumbling prayers
what the fuck

I suspect this is the problem. Those people are so unlikable that you unconsciously reject everything they say and do the opposite, even in the cases where they're not wrong.

This is why they indoctrinate children early in life and encourage the adults who weren't indoctrinated to at least read the material. Once it gets in your head, it's in there forever, regardless of whether you rationally believe in it or not. It's the same reason why memes work.

You let the virus in, and it is starting to take hold.

Enjoy your new belief system; it will gradually take over your mind over the next few months.

the human brain NEEDS answers, atheism is accepting that we don't have all the answers and your brain doesn't like that

I feel the same way. Overall I don't believe, but then I respect and admire so many people that do, so I have that seed of doubt to where I feel like just maybe there is a god. I kinda hope there is one though, otherwise we're probably fucked as a species.

Well yeah, researching stuff on my own is a better redpill usually anyway, I often cringe when I read about saints, because more often than not some magical powers are attributed to them and they are considered to be patrons of some absolutely random things. I also dislike how, at least in my country(Russia), orthodoxy is rightfully seen as just a corrupt tool of the state. Maybe I should larp as a protestant instead.

It's probably for the best, I already feel guilty as fuck masturbating and just lusting over women in general, it's been proven porn leads to loneliness. I'm also more concerned by my physical weakness.

might I suggest pastafarianism?

Tried it, it's just silly, as it should be because it's a parody religion.

You can't really believe in any religion. Not anymore. They're built on statements of authority about metaphysical truths that we can no longer believe, given what else we know. You can go to church on Sunday and put your hands together while kneeling, but you can only believe if you think your religion is really true; the same way gravity is true or the blue sky is true. Not as something you keep in a box and wear out on Sundays, then put back in the box so you can be the average secular humanist all week. If you find yourself living in normal society in a normal fashion, you're a secular humanist really. This makes most Christians LARPers, even and perhaps especially "traditional" people who are "Christians" mainly for the benefits of being with what remaining deluded true believers there are.

It is however clear that spirituality is not gone. The experience of the mystical remains unchanged. And it is clear that people long to have a unifying spiritual tradition again.

The problem in the West is that religion and spirit have become synonymous. But the spirit existed long before the priests and their organized religions, and still exists despite their failing institutions. I'll tell you, Anonymous, what I always tell you; there is no way back, only a treacherous way forward.

Religion is generated first and foremost by ideas, which come to be illustrated and represented by symbols and allegories later. Just find the values that authentically bind you with other likeminded people. Let your children draw the symbols, and your grandchildren tell of gods.

>tl;dr: become an occultist
No, thanks. If I won't find a fitting christian denomination, I'd rather double down on fedora tipping.

Or become a JW. They actually follow the bible.

They rewrote the bible though.

I'm in the andersonite cult if you want in

This is the fate of all atheists. You only know 2 things. Science (the narrow minded kind) and religion.

You must fall to religion eventually when you get off your bandwagon.

Wrong. I was a "spiritualist" because of my skepticism of religion, it just doesn't work in the long run unless you are willing to go full on new age retard occultist.
>Leo
Cringe, I used to watch him. His video on God was 2+ hour long explanation of Pantheism, at least in first hour until I got sick of him. He is just a motivational speaker for normies, like say JP.

I don't agree with your idea that religion and spiritualism are synonymous in the West (at least from my American experience). The West has undoubtedly become less religious, but not necessarily less spiritual. Most people who fall out of religion don't go to pure atheism, but to a less defined (and more human centric, but still with a focus on the supernatural) view of the spirit.

What makes us unable to believe in metaphysical truths, in your opinion?
