Most women you see that claim to have mental illness, or any affliction in the first place, simply make it up and believe in it so that they have something that makes them different from other women. Girls want to feel 'special' or 'different' all the time. The only issue is that they aren't at all, and fall for the same trick of actually pretending to be inhibited. It's why people like to whine and complain about their lives all the time instead of actually being anything different, or try to indirectly compare how much worse it is to be them than anyone else. They just want pity points since they think that score equates to an actual personality.

Since we agree on that, I'll move on to say that I don't understand why women even want to appear 'unique.' I won't believe that it's for a man's attention, because they:
1. Don't need to be unique to catch a man's attention.
2. Expect for their partner to give them that exotic trait.

Although I can only rely on anecdotal evidence really for this, I'll still attempt to expand my second point. When speaking with women on what kind of man they want, they typically say "I want some one who makes me feel special." If they need some one to make them 'feel special' then it means that they weren't unique in the first place, or that they want some one to validate whatever trait that they have. Example: I was hitting on a girl for a while, and things were going well. She just broke up with her boyfriend after he cheated on her, and she appreciated that I was open and blunt about things for then obvious reasons. She said that I was a much nicer person in general, but that even though I was fun that she didn't really reciprocate my intent. "You talk to me as if I'm just another person. He made me feel special, and I want that again." When I asked her what she even meant by that, she said that he just made her feel like the most important person in the world.

This is a common trope in many romantic pieces, random social bits you could find on the subject, and even my own experiences when women want to talk about relationships. I think that when they want to appear unique then, it's just for the sake of gathering more attention. Women naturally want to be noticed and popular, just for the sake of it, not a mate.

Women do actually have a very natural drive to appear and feel unique. When women look for a mate, they're looking at status more than looks or even personality. So any rich guy is as good as any other. They don't have to be all that unique. Not that it makes sense to be unique in that regard anyways. When men look for a mate, things like looks and personality become more important. That's why women go out of their way to look different. Just think of the amount of unique beauty procedures and clothes women can get when compared to men. That's also where the "two women wearing the same dress at a party" meme comes from. It's a legitimate concern for a female looking to mate. While men look to emulate more successful men, women tend to only feel jealous of women better than them since you can't exactly copy uniqueness, can you?

That's why women want you to make them feel special. It's validation that their efforts are paying off.

Not everything on an attempt to appear special is about finding some one to marry. I'm adamant that women simply enjoy the attention, as attention is their form of social currency.
