There are two reasons why keto work for most people, and it doesn't have to do with some real change in biology:

1.) Ketosis for most people takes awhile to induce, usually around 3 to 4 days of tiredness. Unlike with other diets, you have very clear consequences for cheating on it. You can't as easily ignore it, because if you want to get back into ketosis you have to waste another four days. This is what motivated me to stay on the diet for months at a time and ultimately lose weight.

2.) Keto diets induce a state in which you lack hunger compared to higher-carb diets. For one, the higher presence of fat and especially protein creates a more consistent state of satiety. And somewhat equally important, the range of foods and flavors you can experience on the diet is ultimately limited and eventually you become fairly bored of what you can eat. And because of the first reason, you won't cheat to experience those other flavors.

Keto's how I lost close to 80lbs, it's not a bad diet. But if you're looking to gain mass, I would strongly reconsider my options. I'm not too deep into the literature, but having experienced a longer-term keto diet, eating at a caloric surplus wouldn't only be expensive and boring, it probably wouldn't give you the sort of consistent energy you need to build mass.

The sustainable lifestyle change is that you add vegetables back in, which kicks you out of ketosis and puts you on maintenance, and now you're eating steak and vegetables instead of steak and eggs. it kills hunger and cravings so it's good for weightloss because it's incredibly easy to follow CICO and exercise when you're not feeling any hunger, did keto for months and I accidentally fasted for more than 24 hours more than once because I just forgot to eat. On the other hand you'll have to cook for yourself most of the time and keep tabs on your vitamins and nutrients and try to fit as much vegetables as you can under your carb limit. For lifting? It's shit.

The thing that worked for me was having one meal (right after workout) with considerable carbs, and the two others being just meat and veggies.
Not sure about the science, it's just hard to get a lot of calories in that way.
Also no candy or snacks, naturally.

I will agree with most intelligent posters here that keto is best for periods/cycles of weight loss, not a lifelong sustainable diet.

Its rough at first dropping most or all sugar intake. Like any diet, it's hard to change what you eat to make it work long term. It took a long of trial and error for me and ultimately I ended up on carnivore to lose the last little bit of belly and thigh fat I have since its 0 carb. I personally feel a lot better mentally and physically than I ever did, I sleep better and wake up better. Way less mood swings. Plus no calorie counting. I have at least 3k in calories a day and have lost 30 lbs in a few months and gained muscle

Why does Keto make you angry?

I dabbled in low carb and a mostly carnivore diet for a year. I lost some fat and felt good in general. It wasn’t until I started PKD a few months ago that I had the best health gains. My acne is finally clearing up almost completely (I’m 29), my abs are visible and my gut it feeling amazing, no more difficult / messy shits. My mood is stable and my energy levels are stable, I can fuck for hours straight.

What do I eat? Most beef and beef fat trimmings. I cook them on the bbq rare. I also eat bone marrow and brain occasionally. Other than that I eat eggs and lamb liver every few days. The liver I eat raw and eggs I usually cook slow on low heat. I eat a minimum of 2g fat to 1 G protein so I am eating at least 80% calories from fat, often more. It’s relatively inexpensive to eat like this and it is incredibly satiating.
