The only way to create a democratic nation worth dying for is to introduce mandatory citizen service. Your ability to participate in civil society is based directly on your service to the state. Naturally, this seems absurd and authoritarian: why would anyone mandate service to the state? Does this not limit freedom rather than the inverse? The paradoxical element in this situation is that mandatory service is the only way to institute the framework for egalitarian policies by forcing every generation to vote for the policies that either have a direct affect on them or on their progeny. It would eliminate arbitrary grouo based voting blocs and force individuals to vote for the policies the uniformly benefit society as either you or your progeny will be the ones paying for self serving and short sighted decisions. The problem with democracy as it exists presently in America is that is serves the aristocratic elite at the expensive of the average citizen as the elite can actualize policies that he doesn't have to see the negative effects of. Furthermore, any minority's self serving behavior at the expense of the white majority will be delimited to only the most selfish; there is no greater equalizer than military training.

Paradoxically, once more, mandatory citizen service might reduce needless foreign intervention and be conducive to domestic peace and stability. Truly, there is no other way to make the modern liberal, multicultural democracy work other than the implementation of the aforementioned. In fact, the very fact that this hasn't been implemented shows that the American government cares more about the continuation of capitalism (GDP growth) than a functioning civil society.
