All these are way to big to answer in a bite. But animals have genuinely shown that if we are to believe other people experience pain and suffering than animals.do too to varying degrees. Thus animals absolutely should have rights. Suffering and pain are unironically and absolutely literally the worst things in all of existence. If anything is capable of experiencing them then we as conscientious actors are obligated to reduce our role in causing suffering (perhaps weighed against certain needs, mainly protein).

>What is beauty? >big tits Based, absolutely based. I'm more of an ass man myself, but I see where you're coming from. >All these are way too big too answer in a bite I just want your opinions, not necessarily your reasoning behind it. (Although I am interested) >Suffering and pain are unironically and absolutely literally the worst things in all of existence. The real question is, is the existence of pain/pleasure cause for action, and is limiting pain and increasing pleasure objectively moral to-do. I would agree, that it is true among most all people, that all ours actions are to increase pleasure and decrease suffering. >>Do you value empiricism over deduction and conjecture? >dont care It's impossible not to value them to live as a human being. Or are you saying you regard them equally? >>What is truth? >fact That is circular.
I'd also like to say one other thing about one of these questions >Do animals DESERVE rights and >Do people DESERVE positive rights should have been HAVE, as in it is a question about objective reality, not about personal preference.

>What is moral/immortal? Depends from person to person. >Is morality objective or subjective? Highly subjective. >What is the ideal form of government? I'm not into politics etc. but I think there is none. >Where do concepts come from, what are they? They come from imagination, but also from simple things like nature. They are what keeps the innovation going, without new concepts we would be stuck with same things for quite a while. >Do you value empiricism over deduction and conjecture? I don't have a single fucking clue what either of those words mean so pass from me on this one. >What is truth? Everything You see, assuming it's not an illusion. Everything You hear, assuming You don't listen to liars. Everything You touch, assuming You aren't dreaming/high. Everything You read, assuming it's history and from a few perspectives, not only the victors'. >Does a deity exist? Doubtfully. >Is abortion moral/immoral If the child will be sick or may even die shortly after birth or if the mother's life is endangered, then it's moral. Aborting a child just because You don't want it is immortal, As long as You would have the resources to keep it happy and healthy. >What is beauty? Beauty is highly subjective. >What does people value the most? Depends from person to person. Some people really appreciate art, others fancy cars, other people look at the price tag and think that's the value, while others value honesty. >Do animals deserve rights? Yes >Do people deserve positive rights? (IE the right to food) The ones that do something useful for the whole community (city, nation, world). Otherwise it's a waste of resources. >What are numbers? >>What is moral/immoral? harming other people is immoral. Infringing on peoples' rights is immoral. >>Is morality objective or subjective? I'd like to say subjective, but the two things I posted above seem pretty hard to negotiate around (no, self-defense doesn't count as harming people, because they put themselves in that situation) >>What is the ideal form of government? I can't claim to be some sort of expert, but I'd say that the idel government would protect people and their rights from other countries, corporations, and other people, but would meddle in peoples' affairs as little as possible >>Where do concepts come from, what are they? Concepts? Is that like the platonic ideals? >>Do you value empiricism over deduction and conjecture? Empiricism, I guess >>What is truth? Truth is what's real >>Does a deity exist? Probably not, but I guess it's possible. What do you mean by deity, though? Do they have to be omnipotent and omniscient like Jaweh, or no? >>Is abortion moral/immoral I'd say that up until the fetus is viable outisde the womb, it's not really a person, so it's ok to abort it. After that, it's a human being, so it can't be aborted, because that's murder. I still don't like that part of my taxes goes to planned parenthood, though. >>What is beauty? That's hard to define. You know it when you feel it, though >>What does people value the most? I can only speak for myself, but happiness >>Do animals deserve rights? to some extent, yes. >>Do people deserve positive rights? (IE the right to food) Somewhat. They need to acquire or earn their own food, unless they're absolutely incapable of doing so >>What are numbers? I have no idea how to define that. Thanks for the thread, OP. It's actually pretty interesting.

>What is moral/immoral? It is moral to act in a way that you expect it to be an universally accepted law. For example, if you pick up a wallet on the street and you keep all the money for yourself, you accept it that someone should do the same to you if you ever loose your wallet. >Is morality objective or subjective? It is subjective. We don't know what's truly good and if there is even "good". We only have assumptions that help us function better. >What is the ideal form of government? There is no ideal government. It depends on place and time. >Where do concepts come from, what are they? I believe that they come from our minds after thinking or analyzing our reality. >Do you value empiricism over deduction and conjecture? Yes. I only trust my experiences. >What is truth? Something that matches either yours or others view on reality. Something can be true to you but not to others. >Does a deity exist? Yes, but it is not personal. It doesn't judge. It just exists because everything is God. It is eternal and has no beginning or end. >Is abortion moral/immoral It depends on situation. >What is beauty? Certain proportions. Our experiences also influence us to find certain things more beautiful than the others. Beauty isn't objective. >What does people value the most? Love. >Do animals deserve rights? Yes, but they shouldn't be valued more than humans. >Do people deserve positive rights? (IE the right to food) Yes. >What are numbers? Math's language. They are everywhere. >Fucking magnets, how do they work? I don't know.

>>What is moral/immoral? Intrinsically, nothing. Morality and immorality are make-believe. >>Is morality objective or subjective? >For example, if you pick up a wallet on the street and you keep all the money for yourself, you accept it that someone should do the same to you if you ever loose your wallet. Kantian ethics, *shudder*
Oliver Cruz
>shudder Why? I think it's pretty based.
Angel Morgan
I just find it so... impractical. It has no basis in irrefutable reality. What exactly stops me from doing unto others as I would *not* want them to do to me, if I can get away with it? From keeping the money, and then demanding that someone else return my wallet if they find it, since nobody needs to know? Other than this make-believe social contract thing? Please don't say "decency", because it's a cop-out that has the exact same problem.
Of course I don't want to start shit here, but can't stomach accepting a moral code that's this ignoreable, because it just means it's another daydream. Something like children making up rules for playing in a sandbox. I could only accept a code of ethics that would be utterly unbreakable because it'd be 100% in line with human nature and what we understand as free will. A "worthy master", I guess. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find one.
But of course, if your ethics empower you, then by all means live by them, user.
Logan Sullivan
>What is moral/immoral? "Moral" and "Immoral" are words that people use differently in different contexts. People don't have a single agreed upon definition, so it's hard for me to pick just one. In each of those contexts they are gesturing at different properties of actions, all of which exist. >Is morality objective or subjective? See above- sometimes it is objective (e.g., which actions does Yahweh approve of? Even if he doesn't exist there is still an objective answer to the question) and sometimes it is subjective (e.g., which of these actions would make me feel moral pride if I performed them?) . Those which reference the subject (me, I) in their definition are subjective. >What is the ideal form of government? Superintelligent benevolent AI dictator. "If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary." But a superintelligent benevolent AI is, practically speaking, an angel. >Where do concepts come from, what are they? The brain? >Do you value empiricism over deduction and conjecture? No, you need some deduction to extrapolate anything from sense data. >What is truth? Baby don't hurt me >Does a deity exist? I would wager "no". >Is abortion moral/immoral 1. Define moral. 2. I don't like abortions. >What is beauty? A certain kind of pleasant response to a certain kind of pattern recognized. A neuroscientist could probably tell you more about it than I could. >What do people value the most? people are different and value different things. But I guess the most frequently most valued things are probably survival, sex, and love. (1/2)
Evan Williams
>Do animals deserve rights? Define "deserve". Define "rights". I would like people to treat animals well. >Do people deserve positive rights? (IE the right to food) Again, define "deserve". But basically yes, as our resources become more abundant we should raise the bar on what people get. That doesn't mean we should have bread lines, but maybe food stamps are a good compromise that still works mostly within the capitalist system? >What are numbers? Okay, mathematicians are like the ultimate Cartesian skeptics. They don't even trust their senses. They just assume a few simple ideas. Sets exist, and anything that exists can be an element of a set. So what can we put as elements of our sets? Maybe nothing. So that set with no elements we will call "0". But now, that's something that we know exists! So we can make another set with "0" as an element. Let's call it "1". Now both "0" and "1" exist. Let's put them both in a set together, and call it "2"! Etc. >Fucking magnets, how do they work? Moving charge generates a magnetic field. Every atom has moving electrons, but usually their orientations are random and cancel out. If you can get a bunch of atoms to line up nice though, you've got yourself a magnet. (2/2)
