What do you think Jow Forums will be like in the 2020s?

I think Jow Forums has remained pretty consistent since 2014 in terms of its general quality. The culture hasn't changed much since then, so I expect this might be the general state of the site for a while.

I'd fuck'n love that if it's true, but it seems like irony-drenched humor and discourse is especially popular with kids and teens, since it's like a blanket they can wear to try and shield themselves from criticism. "You can't tell me I'm wrong because I'm not being genuine right now, etc."

I agree with you on that and we all know the two big reasons for it, some people say 2016 was the big kahuna because of the election but while that did bring in a lot of new posters it didn't change the way anyone behaved since they were already supercharged with political shit anyway, for me the combination of GG and the fappening was the final nail, I don't think anything else that happens will put much of a dent, if at all, into the culture of Jow Forums because it's already reached it's climax.

Same. The Fappening cemented the fact that /b/ is now an amateur porn board, as opposed to Jow Forums's front-door. And GG played a big part in Jow Forums's influential rise across the site, since it convinced a lot of people that politics significantly influence the quality of their nerd hobbies. I see a lot of people complain that the 2016 elections made things worse by inviting another flood of users, but I agree that most of the new blood seemed to seamlessly blend in with the average 2014-2015 poster. People just seem mad about outsiders invading their online spaces, even if those outsiders think and behave more or less the same.

I've come across a few sites like that, yeah. I'd say in general they're still better than modern Jow Forums (aside from being slow or inconsistently online), but I agree that the golden years of imageboards are behind us. I think a big part of that is because a lot of us are older now; people have moved on to other sites or settled into more insular private communities.
