Hey dipshit zoomers, old, old robot here. Put down your juuls and and coconut water sippies for a minute and let me tell you the history of r9k, as well as my addled boomer mind can remember it. Some of the dates will be off, because I'm recalling all of this from memory as best I can, but here goes.
The first incarnation of Robot9000 was created some time in 2008, as a response to a calcification of new content coming from Jow Forums as a whole, and /b/ in particular. Jow Forums had always prided itself on being a content generator, as opposed to a aggregator like Reddit or ICanHazCheezburger. /b/ at this point was page after page of "> be me" stories, porn requests and retread, tired memes (if you think Sneed&Feed is tiresome you don't remember That Fucking Cat and Milhouseposting). In an effort to combat this lethargy, Robot9000 was created and the robot overseer algorithm would brute force the creation of OC by enforcing no repeated strings, or so the logic went.
The first batch of robots styled themselves the Gentleman board, since r9k would be more civilized and well-behaved than /b/, another board without even the pretense of a central theme or topic. That lasted for all of a week, before it became apparent that self-loathing and absurdist edginess was more in keeping with Jow Forums's M.O. I remember the first big meme r9k came up with was calling robots arcanine, and using a variantion of the Advice Dog template juxtaposed with Pokemon as different kinds of parents, like the sexy milf who got off on teasing you (Ninetails), or the stoner deadbeat dad (Venusaur), or the abusive stepfather who would ridicule and beat you (Charizard iirc).
Around 2010 is when r9k became the feels board. It had become apparent then that there was going to be a clear cultural divide on what topics were acceptable for the chaos of Jow Forums, and what belonged on the more normalized and mainstream Reddit. Beating the robot was going to be difficult under those circumstances. What passed for edgy and hilarious on Jow Forums back in 2003 had become Reddit-tier in the past 7 years. The path of least resistance was relationship problems. Nearly every other thread on r9k was some variation of "how do I talk to this girl" or "are there any girls in this area" or "please help me how do I meet girls." It was original enough by the algorithm's cold, context-free logic, but obviously didn't follow the spirit of r9k's original purpose. Pepe and Wojak would soon make an appearance around this time too. An exaggerated crying Wojak would become ForeverAlone.jpg, and man, did Reddit drive that into the ground quick. The most striking memory I have of this time was the amount of tripfags that infested the board. Anyone remember JapaneseHardcoreLettuce?
Some time later, I want to say within the space of a year, give or take a few months, /soc/ was spun off of r9k to try and steer the robot back on track, but it was too little too late. Having a dedicated board for attention-whoring siphoned off enough Area Code Generals and Please Please Camwhore For Me I'm So Desperate threads to give r9k some breathing space, but the unofficial topic of r9k had become feels. As memory serves, this is when people went all in on the robot/normie dichotomy, and our old friend and nemesis CHAD THUNDERCOCK became a totem of all our emasculated frustrations. This is also the time I can distinctly remember Jow Forums moving more and more to the right wing and conservative side of the politic spectrum, and the first time I recall hearing the phrase "alt-right." Jow Forums's always played fast and loose with political correctness, but the forum as a whole was largely agnostic about politics. It was more about just shocking people with NIGGERS NIGGERS NIGGERS NIGGERS and lol holocaust XD juvenile delinquency.
So anyway, seeing as how r9k had failed in its defined goal of creating fresh OC, Christopher "moot" Poole shut down r9k. He brought it back a few months later, however, since it had become apparent that while there would be no more memes that would make Anonymous the bane of out-of-touch Fox News pundits and talk show hosts, the foreveralone robot had become a thing unto itself. /lgbt/ was also created along with the revival of the robot, because while /soc/ and Jow Forums had sort-of half-assed solved the problem of thread-flooding the catalog limit with area code meetups and staid greentexts about teenage relationship problems, in the absence of a dedicated board to discussing those issues, Jow Forums had become the de-facto lgbt board. I don't know that Robot9001's preponderance of threads relating to queer issues directly influenced the decision to create /lgbt/, that's conjecture on my part, but the timing and what I can remember about that era seems to fit my theory. I remember Jow Forums also being created because of the first hype wave of bitcoin flooding the Internet back then, although I don't think r9k played any direct role in that board's creation.
Later on of course there was the bombshell that moot was transferring ownership of Jow Forums to Hiroyuki Nishimura, Jow Forums made a huge resurgence, and r9k has become the de facto alt-right white supremacist incel misogyny board. So, here we are. Any other old boomers have anything to add? I know I left out a lot of stuff, but I think I covered all the broad strokes of r9k from then till now.
I don't understand why Jow Forums was created. It just happened one day. What board was menaced by crypto-currency and stonks fags that warranted mooty-kun to give them a board? Was it Jow Forums?

The timelines don't match up. According to knowyourmeme, both were born in may 2010, with wojak being from vichan and foreveralone first being posted on the 28th. That leaves 3 days at the very most for word of foreveralone to pass to an obscure foreign language chan enough to warrant a tribute. It's very unlikely.

You know there's so much cross-pollination between Jow Forums and Jow Forums's demographics I think they're two sides of the same coin. I agree that Jow Forums is, obviously, the more radicalized and politically charged userbase, but I think the relatively more agnostic and definitely more weak-willed robots have cleaved closer and closer to Jow Forums's alt-right majority, half out of spite for the normies and half because they're desperate for some half-coherent (not that Jow Forums is coherent, but I digress) value system that validates them. Gay posting was always a constant. /y/ has always been a part of Jow Forums. There were always homosexual anons. When a cohesive robot identity formed around tfw no gf and foreveralone, there was always a thread for gaybots too. They were trolled relentlessly, of course. Still are. "Dude that's gay" was an acceptable term of disparagement irl a decade ago. No one but the fringes of society was openly homophobic, but it wasn't a matter we gave much thought to, unless someone was actually gay and we offended them. The ratio of gay/straight hookup/rate/ threads was always heavily skewed more towards heterosexuals, of course, and still is. I think these days gayposts are done more to rile people up than out of a sincere desire to have a dialogue on gay issues. Hey OP, good thread! I was part of the Futaba pilgrimage 18 years ago and I guess I'm never going back lol. This is probably my fifth time on Jow Forums though. The place is too much "right in the feels" for me.
Sorry to hear about your current situation. Maybe I can offer a bit of (not a financial) advice: After 24 months we are nearing a so called 'alt season' with the cryptocurrencies. The inverse correlation between Bitcoin's capitalization against the shitcoins' one is coming to a parity. Altcoins are capitulating left and right (both vs USD and BTC) and it could be a decent time for a very small investment. Look for a few shitcoins' chart that look like shit, or depending on perspective, like a long, long mountain slope with some vast fields to follow. Read upon said coin, do your diligence, and buy a tiny bit off the bottom. Put your ask orders at 2-3-5x of your bidding price and forget about it.
Please remember, this is an investment strategy, NOT trading. Risk a tiny bit, $10-20 even and whatever happens happens.
$200 in crypto in January 2017 netted $100,000.000 (yes, correct) in July the same year. I am sure we won't be seeing such exuberance this time, but I also think we could see a x10-20 appreciation on some alts. Or not, who knows... Maybe entropy swallows them. Hence the small exposure.

That incident happened well, well into r9k's resurrection. Despite all the memes about it throughout the years, on r9k and other boards, I cannot, to my knowledge, remember an incident where a shooting or threat that allegedly spawned from Jow Forums has ever led to federal agencies outright shutting down the website. Which isn't to say we're not being closely monitored by the spooks. I'm pretty sure there's an NSA or FBI agent having a cheeky giggle at this thread right now. But, given how notorious the Internet Hate Machine is, it's a small miracle we haven't gone the way of The Pirate Bay or Megaupload. Almost makes you wonder just what exactly Moot knows, and about who, hmmm...! Agh, Twitter. Well, I suppose this was never going to be a painless endeavour. Quite literally, if you posted on Jow Forums between its creation and the beginning of '10 without two paragraphs your post got ignored, the phrase "ts;dr" gained an origin here

there were tons of godawful tripfags around the feels era and this era was both a bad and a good thing. Before Jow Forums there were no places to vent in a meaningful environment due to /b/'s cancer, and with Jow Forums being made in response that was quite normal. What started out with a mild sense of superiority, elitist approach and lack of offline peer group manifested into the underpinnings that define modern inceldom when enough gentlemen became outcasted robots became dejected losers, became forever aloners, etc. stories about socially awkward penguin got popular because most people willing to sit through/attracted to Jow Forums's mystique and callous approach were naturally outcasts, different or not-quite-right. and this being the lowest but most common denominator continued to shape what was always sort of a board without a real culture -- memes, yes, but what memes? This is where moot failed first
Reminder, that incels are not robots, that is to say those who self identify as incels cannot be robots. If you're a technical incel as in, "you want to have sex, but for some reason you can't attain it" incel, and not the cultural inceldom from reddit, then you're fine, you're good. Otherwise, the fucking redditfags can get the fuck out. The true spirit of being a robot is that of the outcast. Those who don't have a history of being ostracized and bullied, and who aren't currently outcasts, are not robots. Virginity is a mandatory, but less important part of robotdom. Reddit Inceldom only mandates that you want to have sex, and that you be virgin. Lack of sex and arbitrary virginity are extremely vapid concept to tie one's identity to. Robots are mandatorily, from most to least important, outcasts first, virgins second as a logical consequence of being considered a true outcast, and male 3rd(although disagreement between robots about this particular subject over the years has been pure cancer).

The right wing and conservativism wasn't born from the robot/normie dichotomy directly but after the introduction of Red Pill and Pick-Up Artists shilling on the boards trying to get more people to gravitate and create demand for their business models
This is where the real divide became a valley. The PUA that spoke loudest and caused the most controversy were the types that inflamed the board's discussions and blamed women and took a reductionist approach to their psychology, Jow Forums's own culture of toxicity and negativity did much of the rest on it's own.
The white nationalist movement only came known from /new/ and it was small and isolated, most users avoided politics like the plague, there was no interest fully set in until the cuck-era of Jow Forums. This comes after enough robots saw stacy and chad and beta-bux and other manosphere-think. Jow Forums's overall leaning was remarkably libertarian/anti-government/left-leaning because of Anonymous' actions during the past few years
the pua's toxic red pill coincided with the political redpilling during the Ron Paul era and the two got confused and joined together, slowly over time. this is before Jow Forums went full stormfront, as they are now. some differing opinion was allowed or even worth talking about. moot's ideas of "containment" board is much like the idea of digging a massive pit for sewage inside the walls of a city and wondering how the groundwater gets contaminated.

That's a spot on analysis. I had totally forgotten about Foul Bachelor Frog (aka protoPepe). Continue, if you please. I never meant for this to be a comprehensive history of r9k. I wrote down my recollection of events straight from memory, and I left out a few things that I thought were irrelevant to the greater scope of events, though I personally found them impactful. That said, you're right, the sorcerchan exodus was a significantevent, and I'll be sure to include it in any future versions of this oral history. I'm on the fence about fourth-chon though. I don't remember it, and it didn't particularly impact or affect me, and I find the claim that it definitively catalyzed the the resurrection of r9k to be debatable, at best. But perhaps it also deserves a mention.

A certain celebrity tweeting pepe, gamerg8, 7+1chan, tumblr and twitter's simultaneous radicalization and stormfront's efforts all fueled the divide further. dissenting opinion between male/female, black/white and redpill/nuance came from this choked perspective. fear and hatred set in on all ends, and people lost any knee-jerk interest at hearing each other out.
