It isn't be accident that sex (and intimate relationships in general) are such a large part of culture, from movies to music to TV shows to advertisements to fashion... And so on.
Again, having sex won't solve all your problems and make your life instantly happy... But when you don't get it, it can destroy you.

You're interpreting it backwards. The point wasn't that culture dictates what you do. The point was what culture reflects back what is important to people. If sex wasn't relevant or important to humans, it wouldn't permeate so many things in the World.

yes i think this is true. after splitting up from my last girlfriend and going 6 long years without any sex I was seriously about ready to kill myself. I didn't have the will to go on. My lack of sex was all I could think about. It completely consumed me.
