I personally think he makes really funny, comfy and down-to-earth content, and feels like he could fit in with someone like me irl. I know Minecraft is big rn so its easy to dismiss everyone who makes content for it as being lame, but I genuinely really love watching him and his friends just fuck around and I love feeling in on all their inside jokes and whatnot every couple days. Makes me feel a lot less lonely. What do you all think though?

I do think you are overdramatizing it a little bit. People have paid for entertainment for years. You pay 10-15 bucks to see a movie. You pay to see a play. You pay to get access to a concert. With the advent of free platforms for entertainment, the monetization has shifted to be a lot more democratic and pay what you wantish. Because of that, people donate to support content that they want to see continue. I really dont think the donation rewards are anything more than a slight push to get people over the fence. I think its a much better model than the old you have to pay x to get y model.

No it isn't. I checked out things online that used to be there and the things I like aren't always able to be downloaded for free very easily anymore. Some shows, for free, I'd have to painstakingly try to find putlocker (a kikeflix ripoff that shut down) clones to get the show.
