It was better under the monarchy, but of course, it had it's downsides. Pedro was an actual intelligent man who loved his people and never took shit from anyone who wanted to fuck up the country, the republicans were autists who only wanted money and power. The only memorable thing we got from the republic is the blatant corruption. Democracy doesn't work in a country with so many uneducated people.
