Nothing special in that lake, my record is a 12.9 kg pike a few years ago. Even bigger have been caught by other people.

Start with something cheap, get a rod and reel that is cheap but doesn't look like too crappy.
Shimano and Okuma makes ok beginner equipment.
Don't spend tons of money before you know it's something for you.
Seen a lot of people buy expensive equipment and then regret it.
I'm pretty sure you can find good, second hand stuff on the US if you look around. And remember, fishing is not just about catching fish. It's an experience in total.
