run an x86 vm and neck yourself

pihole

Set it aside and let it gather dust

Shove it up your ass get fucked in robot prison.

Not OP, buy my Gen 1 model B is gathering dust, couldn't run Alexa

You could download someone elses project and go "look what i made i'm so good with computer" or you can learn arm assembly like real man.

Easy tier:
Retropie/Pihole/Personal cloud storage/Plex/Kodibox
Or get Google AIY voice kit, it works with a pi 3. Or just install raspbian and play minecraft on it.
Crafter tier:
Magic mirror/home automation/security system/RC car or drone

You mean:
Retard tier: Not touching the GPIO or DSI/Camera ports. (Verdict: replace it with a HDMI cable or VM.)
Pretty good tier: Using the GPIO or DSI/Camera ports.

Could turn it into a retro gayming console if you like that (emulate game boy and shit like that) or use it to stream plex or from a local network drive to watch movies or something on your TV.

oh look, it's this thread again

>what should I do
put it in a drawer and let it collect dust, you unimaginative oaf.

install libreboot

Give it to me.

install ubuntu mate for rpi3 :)

>Set it aside and let it gather dust
This is the standard procedure for SBCs.

I use a pi to control my 3d meme printer
I also have one for my "home theater" running libreelec.

My four Orange Pis are gathering dust, but they're also doing crunching TN-Grid in BOINC.

step by step guide on how to make it into a comfy litle webserver

Make it host your personal website where you upload blog posts and porn

Wpa handshakes capture, twitch drop farmer.

You're a retard for buying an Rpi for electronics if you skipped arduino/nodeMCU/equivalent. Since OP doesn't know shit, I doubt he'll be able to utilize GPIO in the first place. And if he were to do that, NodeMCU can do pretty much all basic electronics projects that don't require processing power on board.

I have the same model gathering dust until i installed retroarch on it recently. It still can't run some nes games at native 60fps even with a 1100mhz oc.
No other ideas for it besides using it as a print server.

I'm planning 3 b+, but can't find on any chink website. Why?

I'm going to make a private vpn so my company can't see my internet traffic on my job phone

>pestmeester.nl
thx user. this IS usefull

This but unironically.

>this meme

It's called that because you bake it in an oven to get the best out of it. Do that.

Raspberry Pi's won't be worth using until they've reached Sandy Bridge performance levels.

This is what I did with 3 of mine. They're doing great.
Don't be silly. There's plenty of use for them.

Cum on it

Has anyone done this yet?
Op, you could be the very first one to do this.

Attached: page13.jpg (1267x1000, 1.06M)

Make a low power always on file server.
With under 2W power consumption, there is no any noticeable impact on the electricity consumption

>I just bough raspberry pi3 impulsively
stew in your own regret and use the thing as your primary desktop machine because you're fucking retarded

lol

Automation.
Like automatic watering plant or home automation.

Voice controlled lights and Pihole.

Make a seedbox out of it

>model B-
Oops.

You're not too far off from what I did with mine

youtu.be/Ij4n6-ftAtU

make an automated indoor garden

I guess you have to be a literal retard to use a cheap, lower power SBC for always-on computing tasks that are actually useful.

Nice one

Unironically a Minecraft server
It works surprisingly well

Just ignore the part about Owncloud and install Nextcloud instead. It's a superior fork developed by most of the original Owncloud team.

Put in pooper with timestamp

turn it into a file server? i plan on buying link related odroid HC2 or similar to use as a NAS + remote torrent box

odroidinc.com/products/odroid-hc2-home-cloud-two

I just set my 1-b up as a pi-hole network wide ad blocker. Works fine. Blocks thousands of ads per day.

home media server, literally the only worth a damn thing to do with them

Where do you get proper heatsinks for pi's?
I bought a set and it didn't come with thermal paste but this sticky glue shit

Literally taped it to the back of my TV and I play old GB games at night sometimes. It works I guess.

can you play 1080p movies there?

1) That's thermal tape.
2) You won't be able to get a "proper" heat sink for your pi because they don't exist. Pis have no heat sink mounting holes, hence all heat sinks come with thermal tape.
3) You should have done a benchmark with and without the heat sink instead of just assuming it doesn't work (pro tip: it does).
4) Your pi doesn't actually need a heat sink.

I planted my pi 3 in a hidden location at my workplace to use the public Wi-Fi to remotely download movies and then SFTP it back to myself through keypairs. I just use a 3rd party jump server to access the terminal. I used to use a Pi Zero but some direct download sites only assign a download link for your IP and require JavaScript. Mega has a CLI download manager that works fine but stuff like Openload only allows the IP that accessed the file to download it, can’t get a link from home and copypaste and for some reason YouTube-DL’s PhantomJS scraper doesn’t work right now so my only option is to VNC via the 3rd party jump server, as obviously I can’t port forward.

We don’t have an IT department, we don’t have a “TOS agreement” gatekeeper page or anything, it’s just connect to WiFi and you’ve got a connection, and I’ve spoofed my MAC address as a dell laptop. I also don’t torrent, after multiple letters from my ISP and a btemporary service disconnection until I called it in. Only direct download. It’s just easier this way since the connection at work is not slow by any means and I don’t want to pay for a VPN. Saves me a lot of headache and time, and I don’t plan on staying here long anyways.

Cheers for the writeup; it is interesting.

No problem. I made as many things as I could unidentifiable on the device itself just for safe measure; false main user, false account for mega, false SFTP user on my home server, spoofed MAC address, as little logs as possible, just because. I know direct download is basically nothing to worry about but I’d rather not get myself fucked by my ISP if I can avoid it at all. There are other troublemakers here so if the business ever got a letter they would probably just assume one of them downloaded a movie using their phones, so I’m not worried at all, I keep to myself and do my job. I attached a 64GB flash drive for files downloaded so I have plenty of space for movies/shows/games before I transfer them over. Just werks for me.

That's a lot of time and effort to pirate movies. Just torrent them at home and when you get back from work they are donwloaded already man.

He probably lives a shit hole country where they have data caps and they are so fucked they can't even torrent a movie without getting sued. Some 3rd world country place like the US or Germany.

I literally explained in my post why I can’t do that anymore, my ISP always catches me. I don’t even download as soon as a movie is out, i wait for the bluray. It’s not like I have to wait to get home to start a download, I just use my laptop on the public Wi-Fi to queue them up and send them off when I notice they’re finished. The initial setup was the only “lot of work” I did, and that took me like 15 minutes to do.

You do realize that my setup wouldn’t help a data cap at all, right? I SFTP them back to myself. I download the same data amount, it just doesn’t come from any identifiable “pirate” source in my ISPs eyes. My work is the man in the middle serving as a seedbox/proxy.

I am refurnishing an already installed old alarm system (PIRs and smoke detectors) to work and be controlled from a RPi Zero.

wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi_3_64_bit_Install

To explain in more detail, the jump server provides an SSL web terminal that I just queue downloads to via wget or mega-cmd, depending on what source I’m getting them from. From there I just send it over to my SFTP server waiting at home to receive. My work has a high speed upload so it’s effortless, and I can do it all anywhere, not just at work.

afaik if the DDL site uses SSL, your ISP can't see which page you're visiting (since the GET request is encrypted), nor can they see what you're downloading. Of course, it would make sense for someone in your situation to play it safe, but installing a hidden device and using it to pirate via the company network may be an actual crime.

>may be an actual crime

And I understand that, too, it’s for sure an issue I considered. But I am most likely leaving the company in about a month so I’m not concerned.

PROFIT

Seriously, you can take part in this project and contribute either with testing or with coding. If you set up a VPN and want to intermesh with the others, just join the IRC you find at the bottom of the image.

Not to mention as I said before, the wireless here is intended to be used by the many guests we have here in and out constantly. There is no “guest wifi” gatekeeper TOS page that it forces you to acknowledge, you’re just in as soon as you connect. Besides figuring out what IPs are connecting to others, putting together time patterns of when data is coming through, etc, there is no easy way of identifying that it’s me who planted the device. There are also no cameras. It’s pretty ignorant really. They are very cheap here and refuse to have an actual IT department or security service despite having a lot of sensitive data in certain areas (finance data being served over SMB with a simple username and password being the only encryption). We’re not tiny by any means either, it’s very odd and is one of the reasons I’m leaving, as I signed up for IT work and yet we have no IT department.

stay mad, pihaters

This this this this

How did you ensure you properly took care of the logging in 15 min?

I obviously exaggerated a bit, but it was not even near an hours worth of time. I just followed a quick guide, but not like it matters a whole lot if I missed something because it’s not in an obvious location but also not extremely hidden. It’s something that is somewhat near me and is completely on wireless besides it’s power supply, I can easy retrieve it without going out of my way, but they would have to go out of their way to find it, which they wouldn’t even know what they’re looking for anyways because on the network level it appears to be a Dell laptop with a generic “default windows install” hostname. Unless they got a “device detector” that measures Wi-Fi signal to locate it to a few meters, it’s not easy.

install i2p or tor

use it to install libre/coreboot

network-attached meme storage

but your company will notice 8tb downloads on one specific ip

Pihole. Best thing you can do with one.

how do you power the thing?
i also though about hiding it outside the window and powering it using solar

I'd rather have them see my home ip than tinder and facebook IPs or whatever

Just with a 2amp phone charger, there is no IT staff so nobody gives a fuck. The company isn’t high up there at all, I don’t really have to be super stealthy about it or anything, just don’t make it obvious of where I placed it, don’t leave traces of my identity for obvious reasons, just in case anyone somehow discovers it and also learns what its purpose is.

source me on that pic senpai

I have like 5 raspberry pi 3 models on hand with HDMI, microSD cards, to match. Why? Because more than once I've had people, young and old, want a machine that "just works" so they can check their email, watch YouTube, watch movies. Etc. I give them the pi, 32GB of storage, and hook up to their pre-existing TV or monitor. They're usually amazed a tiny board like the pi can run shit like Minecraft. Or play YouTube for their kids.

Of course I teach them the basics of what icons to click on in Linux to get done what they want.
>Mfw I had a guy pay me $150 for less than $50 in parts and 15 minutes of my time because I set up his kid with a web browsing, homework, Minecraft "PC" that can't get viruses like windows

Use it for anything that needs a small Linux system.

I don't know what you should do with it, but I installed OSMC on mine and it's now my media center PC. It's really nice.

I run a Discord bot on it.

you can go on amazon and buy a little nes or snes like case for it and tell nintendo's low stock to fuck themselves as you set up retropie and load a bunch of roms for a bunch of systems onto a microsd for it. You should have no trouble hooking up any modern usb pad, you will need a keyboard to setup though and if you want to keep it up to date.

and don't forget to install the heatsink over the chip and usb controller

see, I did this with a raspi 2 I had laying around (didn't bother with the styled case because I already had a case)
the biggest issue is that I might as well just use my laptop and be able to use better emulators and ones for newer systems (or even play the handful of PC games with single-machine multiplayer)
there's almost fuck-all need for this, unless you want a little box to take over to a buddy's place and just plug into the TV (and usually, I'll still just bring my laptop, shit's got HDMI out)

as an aside, remember to disable threaded video -- drastically less video latency
no fucking idea why it's on by default on retropie (it's quite a bit faster for emulation, lets stuff that barely makes the cut for working on a Pi playable... but spikes latency super fucking hard and people can notice)

I plugged my RTLSDR into it with an antenna and have it transmitting ADSB data to flightaware.

I get a free business account so I'm getting something at least.

Even though I rarely use flightaware for anything.

No I mean why is that a point of criticism. You say it as if it's as bad as the other things

being pro-muslim is not a bad thing? is your name either Ahmed or Ölle?

>having a cartridge input that doesn't open
true kiddie toy. Make your own fucking cartridges and then we can talk fgt.

dont want to buy a pi just yet but i use my rtlsdr for a free business account with FR24 since they have a windows updater with dump1090.
