What do you guys put on those ramdisks anyway?

>RAMDisk software
Why? You can set it up with the system utilities just fine.
>loads/saves data automatically upon startup/shutdown
Like a script? Make a script then.

I don't believe windows has native RAMDisk support.
>Make a script
I don't want to accidentally wipe and shred my hard drive in the background out of incompetence.

What's a ramdisk? Does it have any uses for a normie like me?

Imagine using your hard disk, only it's your RAM.
It helps by, for instance, launching visual studio in 3 seconds or less.

Oh alright I get that. Similar to how when you put the PC in sleep/hibernate it stores everything on the ram.?
But wouldn't that chow lotsa space? Meaning its an expensive option

Well it just depends on what you put on it. Firefox will launch instantly and it's only for several megabytes.

Firefox doesn't even take 10s though. Sounds like some ssd shit. Only worth it for a small % of the population

>some ssd shit
Kek? Okay grandpa keep yousing that DDR2 or whatever you have and value.

yeah maybe in somalia

$40 for 1tb HDD =/= $300 1tb ssd
Waste of money

If you make your OS store temporary files on a RAMdisk, they can be written/read much faster, there's that much fewer writes on your SSD, and they'll vanish on a reboot/shutdown, so you won't have to clean them up if the program they belong to doesn't do it.

What's up with rams longevity?

if throwing temporary shit on a ramdisk is what triggered that thought, wait until you see what ram is normally used for

>windows
Since when are we talking about that baby shit? Get a real OS faggot.

1tb HDD < 1tb ssd
Glad to help

ImDisk

This

This this this
Also best way to mount iso images

120gb boot disk will serve everything you need, 240gb is more luxury
512gb is just wanting to put everything on it without worry

more then this is hdd replacement territory, and price per gb makes it not worth it currently.

I've had good luck with Softperfect ram disk. Supports disk images and loading/saving automatically.
