The whole point of the device is to have a pocket console which plays a lot of good games. Laptops aren't as compact, PS Vita and Nintendo consoles lack games and are behind DRM.

my Galaxy S8 is a very capable emulating machine, but I can't be bothered to carry a USB adapter, cable, controller, and phone stand wherever I go. That's all way too much trouble.

To be fair, these days the only real difference between a gaming computer and productivity computer is at worst a GPU and even then some workloads might necessitate it.
