It really is

>big colorful buttons and soft UI design

give me my jet black terminal using default shell

>mint
>the best
no thanks, debian is better.

Ubuntu is best and it's the industry standard. Mint is a backdoored fork and insecure by design.

I started on Mint and Debian. Mint was my bragging right when playing Red Eclipse.

i run gentoo btw

>easy to install, so i can go back to my shit as fast as possible
>the mate edition is modern and minimalistic in the same time + comfy menu
>comes with my preferred software already installed

>uninstall X
>enjoy

had no problems using it the past year for my samba/HTPC system.

i'm running debian now since i know a lot more, but it's a very ok first distro

>Mint is a backdoored fork and insecure by design.
I didn't know this. Clearly you aren't talking about that one time their ~web page~ was compromised, as that has nothing to do Mint or its design. What backdoor does Mint have? Why is it insecure by design? Is there any fix on the horizon?

>expecting actual arguments

He's meming and parroting. FUD always happens with popular distros

I know, I should uninstall Cinnamon and install i3wm on top.

But it is still insecure and dangerous by design

Ah, I'm still waking up.

>Mint is a backdoored fork and insecure by design.
Just for that, I'm going to install Mint!

Because Gentoo

The only mean thing I can say about Mint is that they modify the base packages so they have to support them rather than expect just werks.

But that's about it.

Mint is nice but cinnamon is a little bloated; their XFCE edition is stellar.

>your computer crashes
>the first thing you see is giant emoticon with the error code being at the bottom in small lettering

I don't use Linux myself, but that pic is good argument that I should.

>MintBox Mini 2
>300 USD
>low TDP CPU
Sounds like a good mini PC for your grandma/kid/normie. Actually, it sounds just like the Intel NUC which costs 240 USD except that the MintBox has twice as much RAM and storage. I might buy one.

>use linux mint
>refresh rate is fucked because cinnamon uses a derivative of mutter, which is a piece of shit that always sets the refresh rate to the lowest of my 2 monitors (so, 60hz instead of 120/144hz) even if i manually set it otherwise

i struggle with this shit on every fucking DE, but at least with XFCE or some other similar lightweight distro i can swap out the compositor for something like compton. every other compositor will generally at least allow for smooth window dragging, but will stutter badly on resizing windows

other than that cinnamon is breddy gud

is it possible to remote desktop with xRDP on mint? i tried with ubuntu and it only works sometimes
