I'm on lineage-OS default launcher with KISS-launcher on the long press of the home button.
If I had not lineage-OS, I would have got Nova-launcher.

Stock LG launcher because there is not a single unrooted launcher that has the tap function without the fucking device administration that makes you type the pin every single time. It looks terrible but its so smooth with double tap for lock and unlock.

I'm actually using ZenUI launcher on a Xiaomi device because I just couldn't get used to the MIUI

I have used nova for years now, and after I had set it up, I didn't do anything with it. It just werks, so your argument doesn't make sense, sorry.
It has a lot of features, so you can make your perfect home screen, but you don't have to open it ever again after that.

Just type normally, you can restrict search settings in the kiss menu I believe. Why would you want to add unnecessary bloat? I use lawnchair over kiss though personally
