Check out the movies Midnight Cowboy, French Connection, and Taxi Driver for the old decaying manhattan.
it's considered a city for the ultrarich now, except those foreign shopkeepers / vendors i suppose.

the current mayor was a pretty hardcore leftist, before him bloomberg continued the giuliani policies and defended stop & frisk racial profiling openly. that guy's like trump in the way he's mega-rich and doesn't care what anyone thinks of him. but I think diblasio's gotten some major pushback when he tries anything wacky.

it's a guided tour, we went up to the empire state building. we get some stretches of time to explore so i manage to walk around and see stuff. also the group is insufferable pensioners so i also leave them whenever i can and go off on my own because they are so slow and annoying. like when they were shuffling around in battery park for almost an hour i was able to walk around and find a place with a nicer view of the seaside. also managed to find grand central station by accident later. nice building
yeah i've heard occasional stuff about diblasio. passed by some trashcans with political messages about immigrants on them but my phone didn't save the pic for some reason. there were some homeless but appropriate for a city that size i think

yeah, though we're leaving in half an hour. the breakfast here is disgusting, I didn't eat either day. powered microwaved eggs and cheap pastries and american sugar bread. and they've got some indian ape man who looks like a literal subhuman in the nonmeme sense of the word looking over people's shoulders to make sure they don't sneak any of the 'food' away.
very comfy beds though. i feel rested after 6 hours like i'm in one of those expensive beds in the sims
