Not really. They made the fastest 486, then the Athlon, and.. Well there's certainly a period of mediocrity, but at least they had good bang for the buck. That being said, they seem to be doing well with Threadripper and Ryzen. I have owned a few AMD and Intel CPUs over the years. I am not partial to either brand. That being said, I can't really justify any new Intel CPU. They're beating Intel in value and plenty of performance for most enthusiasts.

Last time i checked zen was pretty good. It's technically not amd's fault glofo fucked up 14nm and had to buy a smartphone aimed process. Zen is just about 5% behind coffee lake ipc wise(at least according to cinebench but obviously there are a lot of different instructions so it really depends on the workload). For all you gayming centered fags this almost on par ipc of zen will become pretty impressive once intel and amd use their new process nodes 10/7nm which will be almost equally powerful. Once amd fixes their latency issues too it's gonna be really competitive performance wise.
