Because right now I'm unable to move back to 7. Once some sort of workaround is made and I'm able to successfully complete the 7 installation, I'll most likely "downgrade" there and then.

Do you at least use scripts to lessen the horrific spyware and telemetry? Speaking as someone who cherishes his Win 8 installation, I just can't imagine dealing with that on a daily basis.

It is legitimately a very good operating system. If you ignore the rhetoric from the virgins on this board who sit and bicker about menial garbage such as disliking the start menu and blaming windows for third party's doing a terrible job at releasing drivers, then you can actually begin to understand why it's objectively good. If you actually read and look into the way the operating system runs internally, you can see that windows has been reworked from the ground up.
All you will see here is dumb opinions from people who don't even understand what an operating system is complain about aesthetics that changed and neglect to look further beyond that, which includes the positives of windows 10 such as HyperV. I followed the meme with the rest of the board until I actually got to work with windows 10 and read a lot of the documentation that exists, like windows internals.
This board is like listening to a teenager complain about his parents for having rules in the house but fails to see beyond the bigger picture because they don't understand how anything works.

It just werks and my parents understand how to use it.

It werks

I haven't used Windows as my desktop OS for over year now, but one great advantage it had over Linux was that once it was installed, that was it basically ready to go. Sure, I had to change a couple of settings and download one driver, but apart from that it was ready to go.
I definitely couldn't go back to it now though as my primary OS (I installed it on a spare drive a week ago to test some software), because apart from what I've mentioned above, everything else seems so backwards, especially when it comes to installing and updating software.

in that order

Just werks.

Because my Logitech G13 absolutely refused to work on my Debian installation. I tried every single third party driver I could find, and not one of them worked. The day I can find a replacement for it is the day I quit Windows.

Because they're idiots who either can't or won't. Wasn't that obvious?

>hurr durr the only complaint is aesthetic
>hurr durr it has nothing to do with telemetry, botnet and malware preinstalled and very hard to remove
fuckoff shill

i have little to no issues with windows 10 aside from how it handles thumbnail caching for picture folder

No, it's legitimately garbage. Updates break everything. The latest thing to get broken was bluetooth. Now I don't have a keyboard! Yay!
>m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-muh LTSB
Don't you just LOVE having to jump through corporate hoops, or pirate, just to get a version of the operating system that shields you from Microsoft's shitty development cycle?

That overhyped suite is not enough to excuse this bullshit. Especially now that they've moved to a subscription model.

i play games with my friends !

I don't have any friends, but yes I play games with Windows too. Sometimes I pretend Cortana is a real person so it's like she's playing with me, or at least watching me play.

that is very sad
you should get some friends!
i probably wouldnt play anything other than old console games if i didnt have friends to play the newer ones with
and then i'd have no need for a computer

>URL for the repo changed so apt-get won't get the files anymore
>linux isn't built around just going to a website, downloading a program, installing it, and it werking, so I have to spend half an hour troubleshooting apt-get or just use a flashdrive

I get your point and it's valid in a few cases that i can think of, but for this particular situation you would just use "apt-cache search samba" to find the correct name of the samba package you're looking for, and then apt-get install whatever the name is that you find from that.

>t. pajeet
it's a lot more than horrible aesthetics
let's be honest, you can't see the big picture

Because every now a then (maybe a few times a year) I want to play so kind of mainstream game. For the same reason I still put $300 video cards in my systems. I don't know why, it is what I have always done, since 1996. But I don't play games anymore and honestly could do all of my work on Linux just as well. Maybe one of these days I will finally make the switch and just keep a second light gaming system or god forbid buy a console I will have for maybe a few hours a year.

Office because Solver is shit on LibreOffice.
Matlab and Scientific Workplace aren't on linux and their alternatives are trash and look unprofessional, not to mentjon Wine can't handle them.

Well, everything just works. I don't really care about privacy because if you use the same email for every site you are pretty much fucked anyway.

Wow, this craptop works with Windows 10? I've noticed that W10 works on weak hardware faster for some reason...

I thought matlab was on linux. I don't know anything though, I just jack off to anime
wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Matlab

Because it's what I'm used to and I'm brainlet that is bad at learning new things.

I'd like to change that, and I actually just got a cheap thinkpad that I can experiment on, and I installed arch on it (using a tutorial of course...). But now I don't really know where to go from here. I'm not really the kind of self-starter that does well in an open environment. I'm thinking maybe I should do some courses on linux academy or something, I dunno. It's exhausting having to look up how to do every tiny thing, and then a lot of it just goes over my head.

Lol look at these fucking retards. Literal tech illiterates. Windows users are the bumpkins of the tech world. The Walmart shoppers, if you will.

Case in point: this guy probably got that toaster at walmart.

>But now I don't really know where to go from here.
Just try to use it as your daily. Every time you don't know how to do something, check the official wiki, and short of that, just google it.

Eventually it will just come naturally. You don't remember how you first learned to use a computer, and you don't remember every single event where you learned every single feature of Windows that you know now. In the same way you will understand a new system.

>Celeron N3050

You can literally get an Office 2016 (NOT 365) key off eBay for like $5, probably even less.

Got that + a Win 7 Ultimate key for not much more than $10.

Because GIMP isn't a replacement for Photoshop, and there is no good replacement for Premiere.

Games and to piss off the autistic virgin in here whose Linux will never be popular

I found a guide to make the Windows 10 stuff (bottom bar, windows menu, program windows) look like XP. Looked pretty similar, even let you replace the modern icon (the bottom left one) with the XP version. Looked nice, changed back because I prefer the 10 look.

Today i had to boot it on a friends computer to do a bios update.

Got terminal cancer doing so.

7 doesn't work very well with 144hz.

I get this issue where program windows would gradually slow down to a choppy framerate, then fix itself by minimising / maximising the window.

I just dual boot when I need to run an old game or for nostalgia's sake.

>updating the BIOS
>ever

Games, software, server. Windows 10 makes it so my hardware can be used to their fullest extent without having to worry if a defunct driver is limiting them. I don't have to worry about whether my games/video editing software will work properly.

Until the day Linux gets access to native programs of actual usefulness, it'll remain nothing better than an emergency OS to boot off a USB stick. And no I don't mean WINE.

that helps.
I just literally want an XP that works with modern hardware.
the looks is a part of it, but I enjoy out lite it is. way less ram, ext.
Just want my simple XP that can run modern hardware.

everything just works.

>have disabled updates and all other tracking shit.

Because there's no way in hell i'd support a shitty commie OS

how do you reliably disable updates? No matter what registry, tasks and services I tinker with, they keep re-activating themselves. What would you personally recommend?

It's placebo. You can't actually disable that shit. It's hardwired.

Ive been using this tool for the last 3 weeks. No updates have made it through.

Attached: Capture.png (380x284, 49K)

don't. Disabling updates is fucking retarded. Just turn off the auto-reboot so the PC doesn't restart when it wants to.

just turn off updates from the services window instead of willfully putting malware on your computer. nu-Jow Forums is fucking cancer i swear to god.

nigger that doesnt work.

Because I make loot using Visual Studio. Other than that I never touch it.

I got it for free and I don't have a good reason to switch to something else

Gaymen

>disabling updates is fucking retarded
The updates broke bluetooth though, and Microsoft just pushes them without testing them.

It works

You have to be either poor or fucking autist if you use linux as a daily driver

How is that malware? I just ran a scan on it through virustotal, and everyone gives it a clean go ahead.

I'm a functional member of society

Who said that I'm tech illiterate? I just said that W10 just werks and tech illiterate users like my parents can use it.
Sure, there are some GNU/Linux distributions that just work (i.e OpenSUSE, Fedora) but they are not Windows (or OS X) and normies are afraid of it. I've tried my parents use OpenSUSE, they generally liked it (that it is not updating without any warning), but they didn't liked how Wine ran proprietary Windows software (2010 office), and they didn't liked the solitaire there.
Normies don't care about 'muh free as speech software', they care about 'it works and I don't give a fuck', like people who drive automatic, they don't care about 'muh, 2 seconds faster to 100 kph, I feel the car meme and 1 l/100 km less fuel consumption*', they care about 'put in drive and drive'.
Personally, I can make my own GNU/Linux from scratch, or use autistic memes like Gentoo or Arch, but there is no reason of doing this, really. Extra 100 MB of saved RAM is not worth compiling shit all day, so I run OpenSUSE, because it works for me.
>this guy probably got that toaster at walmart
100% sure, and what? It works for him.
I'd buy the same laptop if I would need a machine for shitposting and 00's games. As bonus - you will have pretty good battery life, since this Celeron consumes 5W I believe, or so.
But I'd change Windows to GNU/Linux since this works better for me.

Dunno mang, my brother told me it's faster and less of a resource hog than Win7.

Do I have to block Microsoft botnet shit?

It would help. I've heard you can't block it all, but you can manage it at least. I'm trying to work on finding scripts and programs that help stop the automatic updates, but everyone keeps saying that it's malware.

>Updates break everything.
That's false.
Updates don't break shit on my machine and on 5 more machines of various ages and hardware compositions I had installed Win10 on.
Stop manually fucking up Windows and it won't fuck up on you, retard. I'm using Insider which is fucking supposed to fuck up because it's an in-dev version and the worst issues I had on it for the last year were minor visual UI glitches.

You're so full of it.

>computer constantly keeps waking up
>sort through task scheduler to find out what's wrong
>schedule retry scan is the culprit, forcing windows updates at 3 in the morning with a wake timer
>not allowed to disable it since Microsoft doesn't want me altering updates
>not allowed to change it for the same reason
>can't even shut my computer down, since it'll start it back up without my permission
>try to take control of the folder
>task scheduler magically stops responding and locks me out
>only way to stop it was to delete the folder via the registry

It "just werks" right?

>stories that keep happening because I'm a retard who has no idea what he's doing
Just works on my machine. I had Win10 running without restarts for about half a year on my previous laptop due to the motherboard failure it had which made reboots equal to losing access to the laptop for days. And I did that without running any shitty scripts you retards run without even reading. Nor did I use any 3rd-party software. Nor did I had to edit the registry. I just know what I am doing and unsurprisingly everything works perfectly. You, de/g/enerate, have no idea what you're doing, but you are doing everything you fucking can to fuck up the OS.
>try to take control of the folder
Proves my fucking point.

> >computer constantly keeps waking up
Disable wake up lan you retarded piece of shit
> >sort through task scheduler to find out what's wrong
Retard
> >schedule retry scan is the culprit, forcing windows updates at 3 in the morning with a wake timer
It isn't
> >not allowed to disable it since Microsoft doesn't want me altering updates
Stop lying
> >not allowed to change it for the same reason
> >can't even shut my computer down, since it'll start it back up without my permission
> >try to take control of the folder
> >task scheduler magically stops responding and locks me out
> >only way to stop it was to delete the folder via the registry

You're a mouthbreather. If you can't use Windows or understand what's waking up your computer and disabling the devices causing it, then you're a lost cause.

I only have Windows on an alternate hard drive for when I have to use crapware that won't run on OpenBSD or FreeBSD. I don't have any important data on the same drive as it.

Hey numbnuts, I don't even use third party scripts. I should be able to access and control what my computer does when it does it. I shouldn't be locked out of my own system because microsoft thinks it can control my several hundred dollar purchase.

>Disable wake up lan you retarded piece of shit
Didn't work. Infact, disabling wake timers globally didn't work. all these settings, and they were nothing more than placebos.

>It isn't
>stop lying
Don't give me your BS microsoft shill. I should be able to decide when my computer wakes up.

>If you can't use Windows or understand what's waking up your computer and disabling the devices causing it
except I finally found the problem and I haven't had a wake timer issue since. But that's pretty pathetic when the "just werks" OS needs to be ripped apart and surgically deconstructed just to work properly.

kek, if you cant configure such simple things i hope you will never try using linux

Attached: gangstalking.png (1541x538, 187K)

Most Linux distros will work out of the box without having to download drivers.

How do you even configure that? Go on, tell me how to change the wake timer of a schedule retry scanner in task scheduler. And mind you, trying to take control of the folder or altering the timer itself will instantly result in a timeout.

If you looked at the endless stream of privacy concerns about this OS from people and your takeaways were UI complaints, then I don't know how to help that level of ignorance. W10 is facebook-levels of privacy invasion.

Not as obnoxiously locked down as MacOS
Least unfavorite UI
More software and works better out of box than Linux
But still has Ubuntu through WSL

I have to use it at work, because we develop stuff that interacts with MS tech. As far as windowses go, it's bretty gud, tho. You even get a somewhat buggy implementation of linux with it.

That's why.

Attached: Untitled.png (1881x753, 244K)

Why they call GNU a Linux?

GNU is just a set of software/binaries that goes on top of the kernel. If you want the GNU operating system your kernel better be HURD.

you run windows because you can run linux on it? oh wow!!!! uninstalling debian now!!!!

Yup. I get to enjoy my Apache server running natively on Debian and my games at the same time.
