This thread is about the appreciation of horology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
>faketudor fag so insecure and fragile that he gets triggered and posts cuck porn and gore.
Landon James
>I'm happy he got buttblasted because his thread got ignored. I know that feel, fuck this faggot. He got mad too when my Casio thread got to be the actual one at the expense of his fake faggotry.
I've only been lurking a month or two and really miss the comfy threads but you give shit posters an inch and they take a mile
Mason Torres
oh my lord
Samuel Cook
Don't let your personal butthurt let you say things you don't mean. Atleast I don't spam porn and gore to every thread and spam this watch to every reply + make reddit posts about it etc OR get mad as I don't get to be the OP of the thread.
I remember years ago when I bought my first mechanical watch it was all cool dudes who were just super excited to own a bunch of seiko 5s. its been downhill from there
It really is crazy that out of all the threads on all the boards these trolls Set their autism to watch, not guns or cars or politics, fucking wrist watches.
I would love to get my hands on a clock to tinker with. Atmos is clock goals though.
David Johnson
it’s bizzare, usually trolls shitpost on more mainatream topics
Lincoln Miller
There aren't many interesting cheap clocks.
Gavin Baker
I have a few shiny Casio so the matte is kinda nice actually. As for it being plastic I really don't mind. I know a lot of people get upset about it but eh don't mind.
Digital watches are addicting. Plan on getting pic related next.
we have at least 3 watch repairers, user, probably much more
Jonathan Davis
>Digital watches are addicting. True that, there is something so pleasantly utilitarian in them.
Those ana-digi-temps are hard as fuck to get though. How much are you looking to spend on one?
Aiden Davis
I don't think it's really that crazy when you think about it. There have always been poster(s) who disagreed that /wt/ should even exist on Jow Forums and instead should be on /fa/. Some of them could be those people. On the other hand, watch collecting can attract a certain brand of autism in general. Once those people get offended over what someone in the thread says they literally don't know how to handle it and resort to 'trolling'.
As someone else mentioned once you think about how much time they're wasting it's not that bad.
Noah Garcia
I actually plan on starting up a little desk clock collection >tfw no accutron spaceview desk clock
I want a Spaceview more than I want to ever have sex again
William Cook
>these threads are usually the blind leading the blind. Completely false. You don't need to be a watch repairer to give valuable insight. Lemania speedbro has given me a lot of great advice on vintage seikos.
Jack Russell
>these threads are usually the blind leading the blind. I disagree, maybe in terms of clock making, but people here know their shit usually, especially when it comes to obscure watches like poljot de luxe or vintage omegas even.
Andrew Parker
I can't just go and buy a $100 mechanical clock like that. You pretty much have to go vintage, with all the research that entails. And there are a lot less resources online to learn about clocks than watches, let alone clocks available to buy.
You can just buy one.
Adrian Taylor
Yea they go for like low to mid $200 for those new models. It is going to be quite hard for me to get over that hurdle of spending that much on a digi. But they are quite cool.
Wyatt Bailey
tfw the slightly heavier scratches in the crystal keep casting shadows on the sexy linen dial and pissing you off
I can't rationalize buying and maintaining one, with all the other new watches I want
Juan Allen
>blind leading the blind. True, but I’d say that /wt/ is still more knowledgeable than certain other places, plus the chan format allows for harsher criticisms of certain brands. Anyways, can’t wait to move to another place in a couple of months and finally start to tinker with slavshit
Chase Wood
I own the calculator one. The lug width is 22mm
Aaron Rivera
Watch repair channel is a must, others you can just search. Also watchuseek is good for everything almost.
Anthony Nguyen
The green one is half the price of the black one, why get the more expensive one to tinker with?
Lucas Hill
Can you wear a Submariner in the shower?
Joshua Rivera
Because he wanted a black dial probably
Aaron Martin
I wouldn't. From what I have read hot water and too much exposure to soaps can fuck with the seals.
Adam Richardson
not a good idea
Parker Clark
You absolutely can.
Thomas Morales
Will Rolex ever make a watch designed for surviving showers?
Jaxson Barnes
>Will Rolex ever make a watch designed for surviving showers?
That's the coolest looking databank I've ever seen.
Dylan Taylor
They might sound like they know their shit to someone who's completely new. The shit you just mentioned is also just surface level shit. We do have a few posters who actually went to a school, but it's so few and they're not catching every thread. I know I'm not.
Yes, the honesty and format is why I'm still here. Good luck tinkering!
Looks like something the swiss would use in a battle to catapult at the enemy.
Jace Bailey
we had that discussion last week, the scientist says it will survive, the watchrepair user says it won’t, pick your side, theory vs practice
Juan Lee
I remember It derailed the entire thread and at the end I was still unsure
Nathaniel Wood
How do we learn more past surface levl?
Benjamin Clark
how to into esoteric knowledge without going to watch school?
Isaiah Peterson
the scientist says it will survive, the watch repairer says it wont, the troll says its gay and that his fake one can survive anything
Jackson Powell
>Watchmaking school It's only usefull if you actually work as a watchmaker or want to do serious services yourself. Most people here own three hand mechanicals which they could service on their own based on online material and vintage quartz pieces (digitals) which you propably can't service at all.
Hunter Reed
I never intended to butcher this watch but it was £45 anyway. I’ve spent a lot more on new dial hands and crystal.
I mean proofs like some link to a watchuseek post or a wis site that doesn't refer to anecdotal stories or something
Sebastian Ramirez
Here's the thing, Rolex has a gas escape valve on the submariner. The reason for that is gas can enter the seals in a way plain water cant. Water vapor is basically a gas. When extremely high humidity warm steam enters the watch over and over then the watch cools down water can condense inside the watch.
This happens, watch repair guys see it all the time. A rolex might be impermeable to 1000meters of liquid water but it's not to gas
Kayden Peterson
>Muh elitist watchmaker school authority argument I do watches because it's fun, it's easy as shit, compared to electronics for example.
You'll find that it's specifically a Helium escape valve, because helium is smaller than water. It's not just any gas that can enter your watch. Nice try though, but that's not how that works.
Eli Long
Fucking tell me about it, there are posters who have trolled /wt/ for YEARS as a result of getting offended. Like, how fucking sad is that?
Leo Adams
You will find that if you expose a normal mechanical watch with rubber seals to rapid temp changes and steam water will condense on the inside of the watch
sorry for facts
Christian Edwards
Sup /wt/ I removed the writings on the case of my Casio Royale but it seems like I went too far and removed also a bit of silver coating. How can I fix it?
