I have a macbook pro, pc and a linux laptop. The linux machine hasn't been turned on in 4 years because there's nothing to do on it. I spent months tweaking it to be just right but that's about it. I can't run UE4 or unity on it because the laptop doesn't have a decent gfx card. It's boring as fuck because every piece of software I need is already on windows. I code on ide's for windows and mac. What benefit does running linux give me?

Guaranteed, if you total up every single desktop, laptop, server, workstation, and super computer, Linux would not be the most used. It's already slipping when it comes to servers, and right now in the server space it's literally only *web* servers that Linux is ahead in. I suppose if you add in Android as Linux, then Linux gets a little boost there at least until Google dumps it for Fuschia.

Windows is the dominant OS overall, losing only in phones, super computers and public web servers but Linux is losing ground rapidly to Azure every single day. But hey, at least Microsoft is releasing their own Linux distro to partner it up with azure in cases like embedded systems where a full operating system just isn't feasible.
