What would**
the best am3 board
that it works
Not be made by Asus, Msi, evga, ecs, gigabyte, foxconn.
asrock and supermicro ?

>Built to handle 9590 so it overclocks like a mofo
>laden with usb ports and no video ports because 990FX
>firewire if you're into lossless import of DV
>Not a meme black and red board despite AMD
Can't say enough good things about this board and I wish the intel variants from gigabyte at the time weren't so chintzy.
>Dual PWM header
That's a cool fucking board, and I believe it came out before the revision 4 UD3 990FX while having a better VRM and same benefits.
Black PCB.
No gaymer heatsinks, just regular plain black ones.
No fucking RGB lighting.
Clearly labelled front panel I/O pinout.
A tasteful BIOS without a grotesque riced interface.
Sideways facing SATA ports.
Minimal brand whoring on the silk screen.
Oh shit forgot pic, and this board was cheap then.
Shame yo
>Fucking auto post cut it off
Shame you can't even get a board without all that nonsense unless it's a PC mate or something, but it won't be high end.
Make motherboards utilitarian again.
I have a rev 2? (maybe not sure exactly on hand) and damn is it a good board
> OC like a mofo
I've had my 8320 at 4.5ghz and my friend with the same board we had a stable 5ghz oc on it
I have no doubt it could do 5GHz, I'm prime stable at 4.4 with 1.38v and my hyper T4 is hitting 52C at max with the VRM still running cool
cheap and four RAM slots
For some reason I can't get a stable prime 95 run on anything over than 4.5 (I have a bit of voltage wiggle room, so I could up that if I really wanted to but I don't care enough desu) I hit ~60 something at max what cpu cooler do you use? I only have a hyper 212
I've got this big bastard, the hyper T4, yes it mounts a little stupid, but I wanted something large that didn't need a backplate and high tension screws.
if ITX
>x1 PCIe over the x16 PCIe
>x4 RAM slots
>good VRM cooling
>6 SATA ports
>built-in 10GiB Ethernet port, maybe even dual port
>7.1 audio
>PS2 port just in case
>built-in WiFi and BT
>m.2 NVMe support on the back
for ATX, just double the RAM slots and SATA ports, and add as much USB 3 ports and headers as possible. Also, add one PCI port.
And finally, for making them likeable for everyone, make different models where the differences are just
>plain black with some grey touches like OP''s
>gaymer look with RGB lights
>green/orange PBC for nostalgfags
> Hyper T4
you said that in earlier.. fuck I'm retarded
It's cool.
No lights. Absolutely no lights.
> Satan Trips
nice
My 212 hangs over the ram slots a bit and I have 2 fans on it so it looks kinda retarded .. pic related
Onboard reset bios and power on buttons and BOOM we got a solid ass motherboard
That's not too bad, at least your heatsink isn't sideway like me. luckily i have 16GB of 1866 otherwise the cooler has to come off for upgrades.
>leaded solder (Fuck RoHS)
>actual copper VRM heatsinks
>Efficient VRM
>unoffensive coloring
>sane layout
>Full sized PCB and not that skinny atx bullshit PCB that OEMs like Gigabyte like to use
>all slots/ports are usable no matter what else is connected
>PS/2
>Tunderbolt
>Intel nic
>no audio chipset
>m.2
>DIP socketed BIOS flash
One that still gets a firmware update after more than 5 years.
Asrock is Asus, but worse.
black
no fucking led's
no dual channel bullshit (i want to use the whole amount of my ram sticks)
>no dual channel bullshit (i want to use the whole amount of my ram sticks)
What did he mean by this?
i meant that if i have two 8gb sticks i want to have 16gb, not 8...
uh, that ain't how dual channel works. you still get the same amount of ram per slot but the data transfer rate is doubled v.s regular single slot. aside note: I've had good luck with Asrock and Foxconn boards.
>prefect
Well it would need to last forever, fit any cpu and any case, and stay at ambient tempuratures under load
Would look nice with poofans
8 sata ports
2 m.2 ports
2 x pcie x16, x8, x1
Great vrm
Better audio solution than those mushrooms
Usb 3.1 header
7 pwn headers
For the output i want to see
7.1 audio jacks + optical
8 usb 3.1 + 4 usb c
2 usb 2.0
Dual Ethernet
2 displayport out
Ideally black pcb but it doesnt matter.
made by DFI
had good luck with this one:
supports everything I need, plus no uefi bullshit.
>7 pwn headers
underrated.
a decent bios with proper LLC/fan control would be nice. (gigabyte notorious for having retarded fan and LLC settings)
Even on my crosshair vi the fan control is kinda limited. Tbh i really hate uefi and would much prefer a traditional bios.
Its a shame they didn't release one for the am4 CPUs... Would have been an instance buy for me
My Sabertooth mobo served me proud in my am3 years
I dont get why they retired the line, sabertooth was always function over form. The whole am4 line was rushed but still performed well. More of a focus on their rog strix and crosshair boards. We didnt even get a water cooled board
5 RGB headers
FIREWIRE
my cat peed on my old 970a-ud3p and shit still works
black absorbs all light to keep warm
I don't need a warm light absorbant motherboard, I want my computer to reflect and if that makes the engineers feel cold, I'm fine with that
So
>What what a motherboard need to be for you to consider it perfect?
it mustn't be black.
Perfect, eh?
>TR4 or AM4 socket
>2x M.2 NVMe
>8x SATA 3
>2+ onboard 10GbE that can both saturate 10Gbps links at once
>physical write protect screw blocking changes to the UEFI and PSP unless I, the user, decide otherwise
>at least 2x PCIe x16
>at least 2x PCIe x4
>1x PCI
>Thunderbolt 3
>at least 6x USB 3.1
>no onboard graphics at all, only a serial console UART that yields console priority to a graphics card if a USB keyboard gets input first (basically like the old Sun UltraSPARC workstations)
>ECC RAM support
>ability to handle up to 128GB of 4GHz DDR4
>no good bios
>bullshit
lol clueless
The Rampage 3 Extreme with a fullcover waterblock may be my all time favorite motherboard.
Enough pcie ports and lanes for pretty much anything.
Paired with a overclocked hexacore Xeon, it will have more than enough cpu power for years to come.
And it's 8 fucking years old.
turned off my anti CIA nigger defense system to tell you this shit is beautiful
heat-sinks should have no angles that arent right angles
there should be absolutely no fake circuitry graphics
any wifi chip should be atheros
should have coreboot, not uefi
s-s-sup
dat gay ass asus "heatsink" tho
is that a mac pro mobo?
what the fuck is this? can I run early P4 and early Core 2 Duo here at the same time?
>No gaymer heatsinks
this so much
>A tasteful BIOS without a grotesque riced interface.
also important
heatsinks are too fucking stupid
1000% this
please get
at least it's actual metal
to continue your logic, the ideal motherboard must be white, and proud of it
It has to be white PCB
Black is boring now
>no audio chipset
why
LGA-2011
max 128gb ram
server board form factor
and a thinkpad
the only good thing about that board is that its white. and its not white enough
Since I would be using a separate audio interface instead of having 6 near useless audio ports we can have more I/O
Im usually for more ports and all but my current board has 14 usb ports in addition to audio. Are you really going to use more than 14 usb ports?
>Thunderbolt 3
faggot
Whats bad about thunderbolt 3? It uses usb c style ports and is essentially usb c + displayport
>not wanting external hot swappable PCIe
fuck you
>Black PCB.
Black PCBs are retarded and only made to "look nice". It's as bad as the rest of the gaymer """aesthetics""". On real PCBs, you can at least clearly see the traces on the outside layers.
It needs the 17 and 18 modules.
>A tasteful BIOS without a grotesque riced interface.
Would be a good start, but properly it should have free firmware, quite simply.
Woah, didn't even know they made FX boards with IDE support.
no UEFI
>On real PCBs, you can at least clearly see the traces on the outside layers.
this. anything that interferes with me seeing the functional parts of the PCB better have a damn good reason for being there
Clearly the one I have is perfect. It does exactly what I want it to. It's a good old P5Q.
>What whould a motherboard need to be for you to consider it perfect?
EATX form factor.
8 channel DDR4.
4 PCI-e x16 slots.
onboard 8 port SAS III controller with two SFF-8643 headers for either 4 SAS or 1 x4 NVME each.
Dedicated 10Gb/s USB 3.1 controller for each header.
Basic onboard audio, 1Gb/s NIC, and two USB 2.0 for legacy.
But a Supermicro H11SSL would do in a pinch.
Respect my freedom; everything else is minor.
It needs to have enough slots for my needs, be well-spaced to not have to break my damn hands trying to get everything plugged in, and needs to enough ports to meet my needs.
TELL EM
any recommendations?
Those white ram slots piss me off on fundamental level.
Just being well built with decent and vrm and thermals. But it has to have styling similar to the gigabyte z97 black edition. No goofy gamer names or gaudy silver accents.
thats how i feel about the black ram slots
And the award for worst motherboard ever goes to....
why is it the worst mobo
simplestic
Yet the asus z97 pro is GOAT.
>"Hur dur the name is close! They are the same"
>Pro has no retarded graphics card holder
>Pro is not cringe-worthy colors
>Pro is better spaced out
Honestly even comparing the two is insulting. It is like comparing shit to gold.
At this point, all I give a shit about is VRMs.
No i just funs it odd how asus can release both these products with such a sheer difference in quality. Its like they hired biostar to make the gamer series.
Pure slotgasm.
>t. Buildzoid
Nothing wrong with wanting a good VRM on your board, many people buy giant heatsinks and wonder why their 4+1 phase motherboard died.
>What what
in the butt
No it isn't.
