better press that facebook share button to spread the word!!!!

Normalfags are so pathetically clueless. Zucc had to bite them in the ass for them to notice anything.

It's funny how they are mad at this now...

That's fucking hilarious, actually.

Why doesn't someone come up with a social media protocol and create a distributed one?

There is no central email platform that controls what can and can't be emailed. There is no central IRC platform that controls what can and can't be done on a server.

>XD
Get the fuck out.

Facebook and a lot of the people who use it are a real problem and here's what changed my mind about that: I don't have a facebook and neither did my brother until last year. The school his son goes to just decided that it was more convenient to use a facebook group to communicate with the parents. It's easy to just say "don't use it" - and I still don't - but it becomes problematic when institutions you have to interact with make it a requirement.

so make a throwaway just for said organisations. its not rocket science, just dont put anything personal on it.

god I fucking hate normalfags

I've never used facebook, but I at least understand it's an addicting medium. If you've been using it for years daily then I expect it's not that easy to just cut the cord.

xD

bump

You can't just make your own email server anymore. Google will just block it for being possible spam.

>points

It's karma, not points

Do you not trust your government?

Say the same thing about Jow Forums.

I was at dinner with a bunch of oblivious normies a few nights ago, who decided to discuss current events at Facebook.

Never have I seen so many people so unprepared to make the slightest sacrifice to their own convenience. Their attitude was essentially, "yes, they have all my personal data, so what?" Concepts like freedom, security, responsibility, and privacy were completely lost on them. Not only ignorant, but willfully ignorant: they just don't want to hear about what values they are sacrificing to use muh Facebook. Literally slaves lying to themselves and fighting to keep themselves in chains.

wut?

Which sub?

Don't interrupt them. Doing something right for the wrong reasons is still a positive. If anything, fan the flames.

Anything that fucks over zucker(((berg))) is good

this is a constant in human history, user.

>kek who cares about , I knew about it before other people!
Hipster tech autists really are the worst.

Facebook can and does ask for your documents when they suspect a fake account
Happened to me once

I have Facebook. As much as I'd like to get rid of it, I depend on it for communication. It's possible to use Facebook without any nonfree software so I am fine with that.
I haven't posted in over 2 years. I message on there somewhat frequently. Nothing overly personal, mostly "want to hang oit? Sure" type stuff. Friends post photos of me. But even Stallman, hater of Facebook, is not beyond photo recognition software.

Basically both of these. support anyone mentioning quitting Facebook, for any reason. It doesn't matter tight now WHY so long as people begin to generally distrust Facebook. Eventually as more and more scrutiny is put on the company, and fewer people support it actively it will continue to stagnate and die. Facebook needs to go, and it couldn't hurt to make people more cautious about social media as a whole.

Attached: skelebro.jpg (480x480, 33K)

What bothers me the most is that the same thing will happen again, with another social network, and anyone who tries to warn them before shit hits the fan will still be a "tinfoil hatter." People like this deserve to be exploited. Fuck them.

I've been warning people for years and disabled my account 10 months ago. I realise that the still keep a "shadow" account on me, so I probably need to find out how to permanently delete my account.

I was trying to explain that why social media is bad to my boomer parents literally 2 weeks before the fb bombshell started, and for a few years now. And it was literally just in one ear and the out the other. My dad called me a tinfoil idiot. It annoys me so much because my parents are so tech illiterate. Like most boomers in this country, they get home from their 9-5 and plonk themselves in front of the television for a few hours because that's how they were raised. My mum is addicted to posting on facebook now and everytime I peer over her shoulder she's getting into arguments with people on status' and sharing dumb minions photos. Social media is such a fucking cancer on society. If only normalfaggots realised what is at stake here. Everything will come back to bite them in the ass when we move further into the age of decadence in the next 10 years and the signal to noise ration of useless information will just be fucked.

>America's founders didn't envision the power of the corporation.
The East India Company conquered India and VOC had conquered Indonesia. I think any educated man of the era knew what a company could do.

Facebook is not something that needs government intervention. That didn't weaken Microsoft at all. In the end it took other corporations popularizing the smartphone to make Microsoft seem tame by comparison.

>scan lan

Your point?

If you knew about the shady practices of Facebook beforehand at least you can try to provide as little information to it as possible, most of us who's forced into using it is because of business reasons.

You literally can't function as a white-collar worker without a social media account.

Jow Forumstechnology

Funny how the entire world is going after Facebook, a basically replaceable service, but completely ignores the one true monopoly of Google.
Really gets your noggin joggin

Mastodon

You can, it's just tricky and requires constant vigilance.

>You literally can't function as a white-collar worker without a social media account.
I don't believe this. Can you give some reasons?

I think a blanket ban on non-free software could solve a lot of issues at once.

I've never had a facebook.
I've never had a myspace.
I had a bebo for about a month before I realised what was happening.

I had an employer refuse to hire me because they couldn't find me online. Let that sink in, they couldn't 'check me out' so didn't want me. And that is most likely just the shit stained tip of a massive cumbersome iceberg of a turd.

Trying to tell normies the truth about what they are giving up is pointless. It's not that they don't care, they have a fear of missing out on some gossip or news. They can't envision a world where the truth matters more than being the first to know among your circle of friends. They can't admit they are complicit in their own servitude. And the thing that gets to them most? The thing that really pisses of Facebook normies? I'm free, and they don't like it. I don't watch TV, I don't gossip. I don't give my info away, I have my privacy, I get respect from official bodies such as courts. I never have to deal with their drama, or their bullshit. My wife recently (about a year ago) gave up facebook and will tell everyone to do the same. We're happier for it, and they get jealous and pissed off that we are better off than them, all for giving up social media in favour or being actually social.

Is this pasta? This should become pasta.

t. facecuck employee.

Pasta or not, a fine shitpost user.

It's 100% true. Our social circle actually dwindled a bit after the wife dropped social media to join me. Her younger brother calls it a self imposed exile, because like most normies, he thinks its an essential part of life. Since the wife gave up social media we spend more time with our kids together, we do more work in our garden, we make more money and we have more time for family activities. As a result our kids are doing better in school, our parents see more of us, and we're connecting with people much more than before. The friends we lost when she gave it up are literally, and I do mean literally, talking shit about us for it. It's been nearly a year, and they are still talking shit about us. It's at the point others have seen the positive effect it had on us, and the negative effect it had on said shit talkers. I have a feeling we're going to convert a few back to being human. Feels good.

has /our/ communistOS soyman become completely out of touch with reality?

I grew up before the internet so I know what it's like to enjoy a happy upbringing i.e. out playing and socializing and interacting with other children and teenagers. The internet in general is nothing more than a time sink and survilance tool for governments, it should be used in the same way that reseachers use libraries, as a reference tool and that is it.

I pity children and teenagers growing up now. Nothing is private and they're simply too stupid or lazy to care about it.

Born in the wrong generation is not a meme. All Jow Forums hopefully realize that.

If your employer doesn't have an in-house means of communication then you're working at the wrong place. If they're too poor/small/cheap to pay for something secure, then encourage them to use a FOSS peer to peer protocol (Tox, Riot, Signal, etc.)

Mostly too stupid. My Daughter is 11 and she is convinced she will be a YouTube star when she moves out as I will not allow the kids to upload their image to the internet and I refuse to let family and friends do so either.

My Daughter is 11, my son will be 9 in a few weeks. Everyone in the house does infact have a phone and a computer. Wife has a laptop. I have cut all wires attached to cameras in all devices, and the mic on the wife's laptop too.

I was born in 85, I didn't have the internet until I was 14, and even then, it was dial-up. My kids are slowly coming around to my way of thinking as we go camping, we spend time out doors and we have fun doing it. From paint ball, to Go-Karts and wild camping / stargazing we have a great time.

My hope is that they will one day understand why I was the way I was, and that they themselves adopt this way of life, if for nothing more than to be happy and content.

For my sons birthday We have 18 people going camping in Scotland, 4 adults and 14 kids. It's going to be a blast and I'm excited for it. Get them away from their social media, from their need to know gossip and their fear of missing out. Me and the other dad going are taking the boys hunting, but just for rabbits, the women are gonna teach the daughters how to forage, it's gonna be great.

It's sad that chans are the last place with people that think independently. Kids and teenagres today are 100% soy.

This
>Hurr durr facebook is evil because everyone uses it!
>Meanwhile shit like Comcast and Verizon have literal monopolies on Internet services, cut costs like crazy by fucking consumers, and do everything in their power to make sure competition is shut down immediately/sued into oblivion and nobody cares

Well of you own a business that sells stuff to the public you need to compete for attention against all other advertisers in all public spaces. But thats owning a business.

>I have cut all wires attached to cameras in all devices, and the mic on the wife's laptop too.
if you already took it apart why not just unplug it and tape the wire against the case? alternatively trace the wire back to mobo and unplug it there/desolder.
cutting seems excessive and dumb what if you want to use that camera or microphone later in future?
-t totally not an NSA shill

Can we just have zuckerfuck deported?

I don't think it works that way, user...

Attached: giphy.gif (480x287, 1.23M)

We want the devices, we don't want the cameras, short of custom building everything it becomes a hassle. And given we have kids, best to remove the temptation of a camera. The kids aren't yet fully on board with keeping themselves safe on the internet, they don't fully understand why their friends can do this thing and they can't. Explaining that their parents are keeping them as safe as possible doesn't seem to cut it for them.

Because you can't make money with it, email and IRC were invented back when the internet was used for academic purposes only.

Oh no better start equipping the government to tyrannies the private sector cause we can’t resist the urge to ignore privacy terms and feed into social networks

It's possible, but you're basically responsible for making sure your email server doesn't get hijacked and spread malware to other people's inboxes, which is why I'm not too keen on doing it

>own a business
>have no social media presence whatsoever
>people google you and find no reviews
>you don’t communicate with customers through FB when they’re at home
>the competition does
>you lose
>you wonder why

Social media is the resume of the future.

How hard is to just disable data sharing in the fucking Settings tab? Are people just babies?

Or, if Zucc keeps the data forever, maybe don't share it online?

me too

>Not Fuckerberg or Cuckerberg
Really?

Anyway, you can drone strike US citizens and detain them for indefinite periods of time now without any specific charges.

literally just stop using facebook holy shit

Stoning is more appropriate

Already exists. It's called ActivityPub and it was made by some MediaGoblin devs, based on the GNUnet protocol.

I deleted mine back in 2013 after the Snowden leaks. I guess it helped that I didn't really use it that much and only really used it to keep up with old friends from school, but I wasn't really that attached to the platform and didn't use it frequently so it wasn't that hard for me.

I can only imagine how hard it would be for a person who uses it every day to let go, believing there is no alternative for socializing with their friends who may have since moved away to different cities, states and countries.

>deleting Facebook
The only reason I drown in pusy is BC of Facebook and tinder

>Never have I seen so many people so unprepared to make the slightest sacrifice to their own convenience.

But seriously. Tell me. So what?

Are you retarded, mate?

>the state will protect my privacy that's why we must give the government more power

Everybody who writes about politics seems to be a fucking idiot about this. The SJW Left and the populist Right clearly want to nationalize Facebook as their endgame. The MSM and Heartiste and co. have been both shilling for this shit. It is ridiculous neither of them seems to take seriously the pretty fucking obvious ways this may, and likely will, go wrong if attempted.

Example: theweek.com/articles/582042/why-should-just-nationalize-facebook (archive.fo/8jolY). Pic related is a real illustration used seriously in the linked article.

Attached: facebook.gov.jpg (1260x560, 25K)

Facebook WANTS to be regulated.

Regulation will stop competition dead in its tracks.
For Facebook's army of lawyers, any regulation is a speed bump.
For a startup, it's a death sentence.

Regulation will cement Facebook as the "official", government-sanctioned social media platform.
It will give it proper monopoly status.

Read a god damn book.

Attached: 1388310071849.gif (245x150, 884K)

why are people so hell bend on destroying a private company when they all FREELY joined up and gave all their private data to them iun the first place, VOLUNTARILY

just like, dont use facebook, no one fucking forces you to participate

good post actually, once a company is one of the biggest in their field, the only way to establish AND maintain a monpoly is to get the gov to start regulating that sector, so the small businesses cant afford competing

smart boi

Can someone explain to me what the big deal is? Facebook can't do shit with my personal data anymore than I can do with Stallman's personal data that he freely shares online.

DRUMPF!

Time to find new "social network" and buy shares while they are still cheap.

>A database about people can be misused in four ways. First, the organization that collects the data can misuse the data. Second, rogue employees can misuse the data. Third, unrelated parties can steal the data and misuse it. That happens frequently, too. And fourth, the state can collect the data and do really horrible things with it, like put people in prison camps. Which is what happened famously in World War II in the United States. And the data can also enable, as it did in World War II, Nazis to find Jews to kill.
-Richard Stallman

If I needed to disappear from the American government, I could. Easily.

Well it's likely on a template that auto includes the share buttons that link to the article, but yeah.

This
So what? My country's government already has all my personal info.

>B-but targeted ads
What is Ad-blocker

Notice how he said there are four ways to misuse it, but listed a fifth usage at the end.

>Regulation will stop competition dead in its tracks.
This. It's like en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Data_Protection_Regulation. This shit will fuck over Joe's garage startup hard, but only lightly tickle the incumbents.

>I've never used facebook
broke: never using facebook
woke: having a very normal facebook account with a steady trickle of normalfag activity
i'd share my bot, but that would make it ineffective.

He didn't. He gave two examples of what bad things the government can do with that data. (You) need to learn how to read.

>our
Speak for yourself normalfags.

You're talking about marketing when asked how come
>You literally can't function as a white-collar worker without a social media account.

>open up, this is the gnu/police, or gnu+police
>you have been reported for running a nonfree piece of software called "deus ex" and browsing pornographic websites with nonfree javascript
>now, please submit all of your electronic devices for inspection
>yes, the IoT dildos, too

Having a social media for your business makes more sense than having one for yourself.

Don't kid yourself. Imageboards are full of groupthink. Always have been.

>photo of guy riding a bike and then sticking a bar into the spokes of the front wheel and then crashing and begging the government for help.jfif

Zuckerberg gonna win the 2020 elections. Prove it wrong.

Je suis Facebook

but you can who gives a shit about google, zuck sure didn't when he made facebook in the first place

This

>no one fucking forces you to participate
Facebook has shadow profiles. Profiles that have been made without a persons consent and without accepting their TOS. Why isn't anyone talking about this?
