You can't be subject to the botnet if you don't use their services

This is obivious. If you don't like how social media collect and sell your data, why not simply throwing it away? If Youtube is getting on your nerves because of the ads, the recommendation feed or whatever, why don't you stop using the platform? Why don't you take the time to read the terms of service? Why don't you choose to sacrifice convenience for the sake of your privacy? It's that easy. Why relying on workarounds when the solution is that simple.

They collect data on people who don't use their services or have never signed up for them.

If your friends, family, coworkers, etc use it and you socialize with them, you are probably a part of it.

>They collect data on people who don't use their services or have never signed up for them.
facebook is just a social engineering engine.
after the success of myspace the Govt basically funded cuckerberg and got their own spying engine

>you don't like how social media collect and sell your data, why not simply throwing it away?

They collect data about YOU through your friends and family.
They collect data about YOU through third party websites.
They collect data about YOU through other people's phones.

They DO have a metadata folder on YOU as long as anyone near you uses any of their services, on phone or computer, website or app even if you never even dreamed of using them yourself.

This wasn't Facebook founded the same day some DARPA project ''"ended""

>Certain spaghetti arrangements are illegal.

not too sure, but it was def funded for intelligence purposes.
it is a social engineering / spying engine.
it was used to start the arab spring uprising in egypt.
