arch felt too mainstream for me desu

fuck off

informative

because people only use it to feel smarter, not to get an actual work done

have you ever seen arch screenfetch that wouldn't say it's arch?

Useless when Gentoo exists

arch used to be shit and break a lot, nowadays it's way more stable.
i try to avoid criticizing distros based on 'what people feel about using it'. distributions/software/tech companies aren't pop artists

This but unironically

Arch is a meme at this point, its the unity engine equivalent of distros

but screenfetch literally is made to display that kind of information

Arch is prone to bugs, it claims to be minimalist but is the exact opposite and the userbase is obnoxious.

Bloated mess with a obnoxious userbase

Arch is a meme and there is better distros that take less time for it to work

Sour grapes. It's really all Debianfags. It's an uphill battle because Microsoft shills it so hard.

I like it because it's super easy to use and make packages for.

PKGBUILDs are much easier to make than an ebuild file

>Arch is prone to bugs, it claims to be minimalist but is the exact opposite and the userbase is obnoxious.
t.HasntAClue

>arch doesn't aim to be minimalist, the only claim to minimalism is the minimal number of packages in the base install
>prone to bugs, thats fucking vague, you could make that sort of generalization about anything running on top of linux
>won't deny being obnoxious, but at least i'm not as dumb as you

*an

What did he mean by this?

how would I know I've used windows all my life and just shitpost here

Systemd.

Lubuntu is easier and less resource intensive

Arch is not as stable as Debian and not as customizeable as Gentoo. The only thing going for it is its wiki when applied to other distros. Also Arch users tend to be really autistic

>I don't know how discussions work so I'll just insult everyone disagreeing with me
t. the average arch user

It's mainly sour grapes syndrome. People here are too dumb to read the wiki and don't have enough Linux experience to successfully install it.

arch has no baseline for stability, you could make the argument that gentoo is equally "unstable" in that way. similarly, by and large the only difference in terms of customizability comes down to maybe a handful of different packages in their default repos, other than that the only real customizability that you have in gentoo over arch is a handful of compiler flags, which i'd doubt you'd even be able to make much productive use of anyways

If you honestly think that you need linux knowledge/experience to use/install arch you are tech illiterate and should leave Jow Forums

but you know i'm right though, so what's your point?

read what you said and apply it to what you just said

I do, but I use Manjaro because I am bloatmaxx masterrrace

Unless you use an Arch installer like Antergos, you need to know what you're doing and be familiar with GNU/Linux tools to format your partitions and LVM, encrypt your disk, chroot in and pacstrap the base then install your boot manager all while configuring things normally done for you like your hostname and locale. You can pretend install Arch is like installing Ubuntu but that's not the case in reality.

can't be just that desu even a brainlet like me installed it in 30 minutes basically copy/pasting commands from the wiki

This is pretty much the only benefit of arch linux
the default installer doesn't get in the way of you knowing how the underlying system works
that's about all you need from arch linux. after you can handle that you should move on to something else.

>that's what he actually believes

but how much beyond just the base image did you actually install? because beyond that it's pretty much up to the user to get a working environment outside the tty it throws you into on a fresh install. the number of people I see memeing about X not working is silly, because I have never once had an issue with xorg, and I run a pretty obnoxious setup with *proprietary* graphics drivers. people are just fucking dumb.

If you want to continue deluding yourself, go right ahead.

That's definitely an option but if you're like me and fall in love with Arch's package management and ports system, you'll probably stick around.

I'm not the one claiming that installing arch actually takes advanced linux knowledge :^)

How about you give me a quick rundown on how to set-up an LVM and then encrypt your disk during an Arch installation?

Linux mint. That's all I'm going to say.

I'm still using it on a device with no persistent storage because of how easy it is to make a custom live environment.
But once ubuntu 18.04 comes out (which has the necessary 4.15 kernel for amd npt patch) I'm switching my workstation over.

I've been using Arch for years and never dealt with encryption or LVM.

That's kind of embarrassing. I mean I can see not feeling a need for disk encryption on your personal desktop that only you have access to but to not even use LVM? That shit is the best.

Enlighten me, senpai

>but to not even use btrfs? That shit is the best.
Fixed it for you

That's the most arch answer anyone could give

simple and to the point is the Arch way

I liked it a lot, but there's superior systemd-less distro called Void Linux

Is the Reddit official distro in Unix Porn! :(

I like Arch, I use Manjaro myself

no installer

>What did he mean by this?
What is not clear about what I said?

what does microsoft is shilling so hard for?

Arch is fine, no one here really hates it. Most of it is blowback towards the Arch users here who shit-talk other peoples choice of distro.
