Has everyone switched their DNS to 1.1.1.1 & 1.0.0.1?

Stop shilling the cloudbotnet dns and kill yourself.

>everyone
no

as opposed to Google's 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 cloudbotnet?

what is your preferred DNS?

Yeah, I'm going to point my DNS to an IP being promoted by some "we swear we care about privacy" company posted by a shill who's too scared to even show the logo or name of the company in his pic.

Yes as it is one step better than google dns

1.1.1.1/

but it's free, encrypted, and they don't sell your data

>we won't sell or keep your data permanently, we promise
>we promise
Oh, how trustworthy. I'm switching right away!

It's owned by Cloudflare (the same company who hosts Jow Forums & keeps it safe and running).

Sure, of course I will trust their words.

My own DNS servers.

Also to add to this, I wouldn't trust a company where the CEO used to run project honeypot.

>Hey Americans, I trust you with my DNS
lmao fuck no

so you're willing to post on Jow Forums whose domain is registered by CloudFlare, site is hosted by Cloudflare, and who uses Cloudflare's name servers.... but you're not willing to use them as your DNS?

Attached: Screenshot 2018-04-21 at 8.56.16 AM.png (424x231, 32K)

I use CloudFlares DNS now. I no longer have hiccups where a page would wake abnormal amount of time before it begins to load.

so what's better cloudbotnet or comcast botnet?

The domain is owned by gookmoot retard.

Yes I am willing to send my data regarding Jow Forums towards cloudflare, but not anything else, that is correct.

Stop being such a retard. Just because I'm fine with using websites which happen to use cloudflare doesn't mean I'm happy to hand cloudflare all of my DNS query, get a grip.

What comcast botnet? I'm using my own DNS servers you daft cunt.

according to them they're the fastest DNS

Attached: Screenshot 2018-04-21 at 9.01.07 AM.png (957x471, 89K)

There's plenty of options when it comes to DNS, why are you so eager to trust a megacorp located in a nation who started the massive surveillance trend?

Gee I wonder why servers that handles millions of requests are slower than one that doesn't

This about more than CPU usage.

>according to them
according to me my ISPs is twice as fast compared to theirs.

You're right, maybe they tested their servers while sitting in the same room it's located in, that's why it's "faster"

Are these fags running their own DNS just getting resolution from ISP? Don't you need to be reliant on a trusted upstream resolver?

Other DNS options...

Just set it up right. Get the TLD delegations fromt he root nameservers and then go to every nameserver in the chain. This will be slow when the cache is being built but afterwards it's fast enough.

Doesn't work on my router. Do I have to register or something?

Do you live behind the great Chinese firewall?

9.9.9.9
?

I have, I edited the router config at a few houses.

No, you're probably retarded.
Post a screenshot of your config page.

OpenNIC is the only valable answer

choose one, and only one

onions

1.1.1.1 promises...

"We will never log your IP address (the way other companies identify you). And we're not just saying that. We've retained KPMG to audit our systems annually to ensure that we're doing what we say."

Nope, but my government does block a lot of things.

I know how to change dns. But interestingly, out of all dns I've tried, only google, opendns and my local dns work, this one and adguard don't.

What's a dns anons?

Attached: 1512835378841.jpg (600x600, 57K)

And where does your dns server pull from?

See

Is DNS over TLS supported?

I'm tunneling my DNS requests, yes

DNS maps domain names to IP addresses so you don't have to remember dem numbers. Like example.com = 93.184.216.34

The server that translates
www.something.com (domain name)
into
111.111.1.1 (IP)
Other anons may wreck me for misnaming things tho.
Since you continuously ask that server for the IP of the server of every page you browse, they hold the capability to track your shit.

Oh shit. I never thought anyone would actually reply me. I'm just a /wg/ fag who stumbled upon this thread from home. Thanks. Anyway, I have one more question if you don''t mind. Should I go for the 1.1.1.1 ?

do I want to give away my browsing habit to an american megacorp?
ask yourself this

if your current one works fine don't bother

Thank you for the contribution man, was looking for this.

>Russian DNS
lol no

That's a big no then. Thanks again.

Fpbf. Nobody gives a shit about your shitty DNS. Just fucking die already

This, I don't know how OpenNIC isn't more popular here.

Unironically this.

Yes you should. Your ISP's DNS is probably complete fucking garbage, the alternative is Google's 8.8.8.8
Don't listen to the other inbred anons, they're just shitposting, as the norm is on Jow Forums

>not using a client implementing the DNSCrypt protocol

Attached: 1496797855051.jpg (1024x576, 160K)

Jow Forums was overrun long ago, this thread is a solid proof of that

I think you mean 1.1

>Using DNSCrypt just because it says crypt in the name
Toppest of kek, you can't tell trash from real standards apparently

Attached: lol4.jpg (975x603, 135K)

>muh privacy
>still connected to the internet

You are retarded.

Reported for advertising.

only helpful post in whole thread, thanks user

DNSCRYPT.eu is still faster for me

dnscrypt-proxy is one of the fastest clients available: arstechnica.com/information-technology/2018/04/how-to-keep-your-isps-nose-out-of-your-browser-history-with-encrypted-dns/

Is using the root nameservers with my own DNS server really the way to go? I have a local DNS caching server with lookups to L3 at home.

1.1.1.1 wipes all data every 24 hours
1.1.1.1 doesn't log your IP address

Basically if you're doing something illegal on the internet 1.1.1.1 will have nothing to give to the FBI/POLICE even if a subpoena is issued.

Google and others on the other hand log your IP, keep data for months/years (they may claim to anonymize it), and can give FBI/POLICE any info they have on you such as google searches.

1.1.1.1 with DuckDuckGo.com, HTTPS Everywhere extension, is the best you can do for your protection. Adding a VPN/PROXY to the mix might be a good idea too if you're involved in piracy.

collective samefag

>duckduckgo
lel you were almost convincing.

use startpage

why would anyone use anything but their own DNS servers or OpenNIC?

I've had issues with OpenNIC servers going down or no longer being used. It's just DNS hosted in neckbeards basements, why base your querying off of an unreliable source?

it's kind of creepy that every domain is just a front for a numerical address and that everyone wants to collect data on you while promising you that things are encrypted, private, anonymous.

Everyone is being watched, no one is safe & protected.

because i trust neckbeards with my dns queries more than i trust cloudflare or google.

I know Cloudflare says that. But I don't trust them to follow through with it. The larger the company or organization, the more likely they'll sell out their users. The more likely they'll rationalize information collection as "Oh, it's anonymized '''telemetry''' that we totally need for engineering purposes, it's okay" The more likely they'll fold like a cheap lawn chair when three-letter agencies show up.

Cloudflare is a bad influence on the internet anyway, we need less of their centralization, not more of it.

You forgot DNS.watch, you brainlet.

i use it, it's fine for my taste, although the servers become unreachable like once a week for 2-5 minutes
not sure if it's the servers going down or the route from my isp

You could set up DNSCrypt so that it uses a maintained list of OpenNIC servers, when servers go up or down the maintainer should update it for you.

>tfw fell for the meme

Attached: pfSense.png (1528x553, 73K)

those neckbeards work at cloudflare and google to pay the bills ever since their mums died

This shit is being shilled here so fucking hard it's a huge red flag. Stay away from this botnet.

Thanks for the tip. Uninstalling gentoo now.

>switch to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
>next day I can’t connect to the internet because of dns errors all day
Cool story bro

>what is ICANN
The current state of 3rd world countries.

They teamed up with APNIC to provide this service. Those guys are OK, considering they write all of the technical standards for everything regarding the internet.

Your data is safer there than anywhere else, sans your own DNS server.

Nothing is free.

The US is bad when it comes to Internet but I wouldn't call it thirld world
And I didn't realize I was directly feeding my DNS requests to ICANN lmao

The openNIC project has privacy-conscious DNS resolvers too:
wiki.opennic.org/doku.php

I use UnblockedDNS. The main server is in Denmark, and I live here so it only makes sense.

Euro OpenNIC servers are slow as shit.

No because I'm not a retard. I use opennic with a pihole and send my DNS requests out a VPN tunnel.

it was really fast then all of a sudden became slow as shit, so nah

Why aren't you running your own private DNS server?
iana.org/domains/root/files

>poo in the loo

when they launched i got a ping of around 40ms which was amazing compared to google at 130ms
right now i tested it again and it went to 115ms while google is 95ms
quad9 is 122ms

>Only way to make US look decent is to compare it to the thirld world
Enjoy your botnet NSA DNS

>not memorizing the IP address of every website in existence

Haha, fucking brainlets.

Attached: shig pig.gif (600x329, 1.27M)

t. brainlet who doesn't understand dns resolution

>Run own nameservers and resolvers
>Doesn't understand anything

No such thing as a free lunch.

Ofcourse not.

>Basically if you're doing something illegal on the internet 1.1.1.1 will have nothing to give to the FBI/POLICE even if a subpoena is issued.
That's because they uploaded everything to the NSA before wiping their own servers.

thanks user

Cloudflare will not retain or sell or transfer to any third party (except as described in the section below and as may be required by law) any personal information, IP addresses or other user identifiers from the DNS queries sent to the Cloudflare Resolver;
developers.cloudflare.com/1.1.1.1/commitment-to-privacy/privacy-policy/privacy-policy/
" (except as described in the section below and as may be required by law)"
FUCK YOU CLOUDFLARE

>and as may be required by law

So basically, they will give LEAs everything when asked.

I love how they're saying "We dont give any personal information to any third party, unless they make us, then we will."
