the point is to insert them firmly into the headphone jack so that when the top part gets snapped off due to cheap manufacturing the bottom part stays forever lodged into the headphone jack.

Mine doesn't have those problems, but will not remain active for more than about 8 hours a day. The self-cleaning routine also occasionally ejects balls of hair onto the floor.
