How is it that cards back when PCIE was designed looked like that, and now they weight 5 times as much with massive heatsinks on them without snapping the PCIE socket? Did they increase PCIE socket's strength over the years, or did they just really overbuild it at the beginning?

What will the next thread be? Videos of cameras?

i never thought about that. i think its just been durable from the start though. (there is a lot of video card sag going around but im not sure user)

Most of the weight should be taken up by the fastener on the case. The full weight of the card would be hell on the PCIE slot.

Video card I was most excited about buying. Voodoo5 5500. Fire it up every year when I visit my parents where I have it stored, still works. Can't bring myself to sell on eBay. Nostalgia..

Forgot to include an image. BTW, my first card was some creative labs 32mb pc thing. Thought it would run the fmv sequences in worms better. I was such a noob.

I had my X1900XTX from early 2006 to early 2009. God damn I loved that card, overclocked to 800mhz core and 900mhz mem on water with 1.57v (650/775, 1.35v stock).

My first card was a x800xl in late 2005, but never liked that one much. It oc'd like shit and was almost outdated already. Compared to most of my friends it was ok tho, they where sitting on 9600pro, x700pro and one had a x850xt.

The X1900 however was a beast, overclocked it held its own against the midrange nvidia 8800 cards.

The upgrade in 2009 was badly needed, but I was so dissapointed with the HD3850 (the whole HD2, 3 and 4 series) that you couldn't change the voltage. So much potential wasted, forcing an upgrade sooner.
