Ignoring their ToS and who runs it.. the sheer amount of shilling for cloudflare DNS here tells me that there's some serious downside to using it. It's probably spying on you. You don't hire some marketing company to shill you garbage unless there's some serious profit to be had. And it's free which means that you are the product.

Besides, running your own DNS server locally will always be faster than anything running outside your LAN.

So, they could give the data to a 3rd party which would then store it permanently. Which means your data is actually stored elsewhere.

But, to be fair all common DNS providers gather at least the same amount of data.
